Had the G80 for 28 days now and today I logged 5 hours and 46 minutes of higway driving time on 400 series and some secondary Ontario highways.

This car is beyond smooth both in ride and engine performance and absolutely comfortable and a joy to be behind the wheel of. I have already set up most of the bells and whistlers and driver assists  but this long run was a great test for pretty much all of them. I used Economy mode for the majority of this trip, it somehow reduces power to about 400 HP and distributes drive to 90% front. With the high horsepower V8 merging and accelerating is effortless even in eco mode the car feels as though it's freewheeling when you wiggle your toes. I was driving in normal mode at one point and flipped to Ecomomy and the instant fuel consumption went from 7.9L/100 to 6.3L/100 just like that. When I started the trip my cumulative fuel comsumption since purcahse and commuting to work in Downtown Toronto was 15.3 L /100, when I parked in my driveway tonight my cumulative had dropped to 9.8 L/100 so the highway run was done at an amazing fuel consumption rate. Anyone who knows that driving Highway 400 in Ontario means left lane moves at 125 to 140 and its kinda like Talledega, once you get out there you better stay in line and stay on it. If you do this the one hour trip from Barrie to Toronto takes 45 minutes. I chose to get out of the fast lane after 30 minutes and dipped in to a Timmies at a passenger's request.

Blind spot detection is pretty common these days but this is the first car I have had with it and it is a great feature on the busy high speed highway, lane keeping asssit as well adjusts steering to maintain lane centering for you, the steering gets a bit heavier and moves the car back where it should be and the Smart cruise and accident avoidance control really blew me away. The cruise control once sets maintains the distance you set so even if I set at 115 and the car ahead slows to say 90, the distance is maintained,at one point the vehicle ahead braked abruptly to avoid a gravel truck and my car applied the brakes and even stopped the car well within a safe distance.

The interior comforts are very nice, one passenger in the rear activated the heated seats and rear heater controls lowered the rear windows darkening screens and had a nice 60 minute nap on the way back to Toronto. We had a wide array of music with SirusXM  genres from A to Z and many fine radio stations through the various areas traversed. Driver fatigue was next to none and this was backed up by the Driver Awarness feature that somehow watches my face and eyes for alertness and measures same then displays my score. All these features are shown on the HUD which I really like because you can keep focused on the road, see your speed, cruise, activation, road signs, radio stations, blind spot, lane keeping and more, without really taking your eyes off the road.

I even had a woman compliment the car at one point when we were stopped. All in all a good day of driving the G80.

Nice to hear you are enjoying your new ride Ray. You pretty much need that much HP to stay safe on the 400 series of highways!

Thanks Jet Rider. Good question and in fact my wife's brother told me yesterday he was shocked when he heard I got the G80, then his wife chimed in and said ya but the Genesis is rated the best car even over Mercedes and Audi! Not sure what she read but there you go.

First I am shopping in the E class or full size class so a CTS to me is a junior Cadillac and always will be, was not even a consideration for me. So Cadillacs to consider were both discontinued cars, XTS and CT6, even though new models were made until very recently. The new sedans CT4 and CT5 not a consideration either. Small and lacking powertrain choices to suit me.

I drove some Cadillacs and fully expected to buy one and probably would have if it weren't for my daughter. She saw my reaction to them and said" Dad, don't settle for a car when you are spending all that money, its gotta make you excited and happy." Then my son said Dad, "Eff it you need a V8 so figure out who makes V8's and look at them. We all know they are going to be extinct soon so go for it."

I am not going to disparage Cadillac but will say this, the cars were competent but very Forgetable. When compared to the car I bought they are not even in the game.

I drove the G80 six feet and knew I was buyig one. The car is over the top in luxury, the interior is absolutley stunning, It it so well equipped and the materials are of an extremely high quality, it was the first thing my son-in-law said to me when he drove it and he has a very decent car, a Maxima Platinum. The G80 has such impeccable road manners , it is smooth, has the right steering feel and input and is so comfortable to drive and be driven in. Yes the power makes driving the car effortless but it isn't what the car is all about,, it is a true Executve Class sedan. The Genesis guys have targeted BMW 5 Series, Audi A6 and E Class Mercedes with the G80, they donlt even mention Cadillac or consider Cadillac as a worthy competitor and now neither do I.

Yes its an expensive car, I could have had a Cadillac for less,  but the value is there, the car excited me. It's conservatively styled but that's the class its operating in, professionally look in the dark grey with lots of eye opening Wows with the tan leather interior Mocha and Pachment,  Wood and Brushed Aluminum accents. The elctronics and features are what is expected in this class of car these days with Wifi capability and pairing, music and everythng else I have not yet figured out.

So in the end I'd say the G80 sold me and the Cadillac didn't and its obvious to me Cadillac has given up on a buyer like me who was a traditional Cadillac driver. Lets be honest, guys like me are in the sunset of our car buying days so they are focussing on a younger demographic and goodness knows they have money too. I had one 24 year old guy at work say he bets I got a V6, when I popped the hood and he saw a V8 he exclaimed " Holy Eff, I've never seen a V8 before."

Really nice ride Ray. You know I love my V8s. I have had my CLS 63 AMG Barabus now for 5 years and even with 620 hp it is totally a civilized car. 0 to 60 3.4 sec, low 12s, 320k top end.

Well Brian, you probbaly are like me and don't drive the car like it's a racer, afterall it isn't,but there is a high degree of satisfaction knowing that your large luxurious car could stand all challengers, but they don't challenge you because they understand the power you hold.
