I dropped a nice Estwing hammer in a tight wall space beside the chimney in our old house. It fell down about 4 feet and was not retrievable.
About 8 years later, I had to demo an adjoining wall, and saw the hammer still there (I forgot all about it in the meantime ). I scuffed up my knuckles against the chimney brick, but I finally got it out! Now I have 2 nice Estwing hammers!

My Missing Yellow Carpenters hammer came back to visit, LOL. Found sitting in the drawer where my body shop hammers live.
Somebody put away in the wrong spot. Not sure who did that..
I'll have to chime in and say that I've lent out tools exactly 3 times in 40+ years and 2 of those were never returned. It has been my policy ever since I was an apprentice to never lend tools.. I even have the sign...I can remember walking around a shop I worked at as a kid cursing about my 10 mm and where it went.....I was holding it LOL

I don't even lend my own brother anything.

Don't usually lend stuff out either, but working for a Dealership it is sometime necessary. Sometime sales people ask to borrow, I ask if if can borrow
their wallet, they look at me funny and ask why. LOL. They don't ask anymore.
