It is such ashame to witness the decline of a once great and powerful Corporation. Personally I was loyal to their products to a fault never owned, never considered to own anything but a GM product.

But loyalty is a one way street with corporate America and Canada, all you have to do is visit Detroit, Pontiac, Oshawa or St. Catharines to see the abandoned plants and devastating economic impact they have left behind. What the article fails to mention is the real reason behind cancelling these sedans and that is simply inferior products that could not compete with their competition who seem to still make and offer sedans as cited with VW, Hyundai, Kia and Genesis who surprisingly make as many sedans as GM cancelled. GM has lost its way.

If you build it, they will come? Last new GM I tried to order new was a 91 4 door blazer with 3 pedals. Waited 2-3 months and they still couldnt give me a delivery date- we dont build many manuals any more was the reason. Ordered a new Explorer and it arrived in 5 weeks. $21,500 by the way, fairly well loaded.

Hard to buy a sedan or wagon or anything with a clutch, I hate automatics. Not too keen on an SUV any more, I needed a 4WD when I bought the Explorer.

GM has lost their way, compare a 91 model Hyundai to a say 2010 Hyundai, do the same with a GM model, the difference in the progress of the Hyundai quality wise and design wise is remarkable. GM has had a lot of lost years is the design side. They are now following Ford in eliminating sedans. They are a long way from being the automotive leader they were in the 60s.

Take a look at companies who sell sedans and wagons, ask yourself how they do that when gm and Ford cant? The North American companies all survive off 4 door pickup and suv sales. No leadership, just copy each other, build they higher and with a bigger grill, quite a formula for success and innovation.

No leadership, GM only responds to copy others which makes you late to the game. Corporate fuel standards led to a lot of innovation, forced. Competition from abroad led to a lot of innovation, no leadership. Follow the herd mentality leads to being at the back of the herd and the wolves will thin the herd.

Now Ford will build electric vehicles in Canada, we may all have to drive fords to be Canadian first.

And to top it off most automatics these days are CVT transmissions which are junk.

I dont know what the future holds for Fiat Chrysler. All I can say is that I hope they continue a line of sedans. I drive a Dodge Charger and it is hands down the best all around vehicle I have ever owned. The engineering and fit and finish is remarkable. Every time I get it on the hoist to change the oil I am amazed at the driveline mechanicals.

Not a fan of SUVs and will probably never own one. Kind of amazing what I have managed to carry in the car. Its my lumber yard pick up vehicle. If something wont fit in there odds are it wouldnt fit in my daughters Jeep either so I borrow my sons Ram pickup.

The Chargers/Challengers/300's have been on the road for so many years that they've pretty much eliminated all the issues they had when new. The 3.6 is a decent engine too.

Couldn't agree more. But they were pretty good even when they first came out. My 05 Magnum RT RWD with Hemi was the best domestic sedan/wagon I ever owned. I should have kept it once Chrysler announced they were discontinuing the Magnum. I hope Chrysler does not drop the Charger. And I also agree, the 3.6 V6 is very peppy, having had about a half dozen as rentals in recent years.

I seem to recall the only issues these cars had when I worked at the Chrysler dealer were loose front end components (tension struts etc)

The mighty General has fallen but maybe just maybe there is hope for the future. Ahhhh who am i kidding, it is over and done. Times have changed and this is the change we have to deal with. What is that very old expression.......................... nothing lasts forever. Please keep in mind that i wish this was never so because i have always been a very big fan of the mighty General.

I agree. I'm a lifelong GM fan but I have been underwhelmed by all of their products since the turn of the millennium (except, maybe, the pickup trucks). The current situation is symptomatic of the path GM has been on for years.

 I think that even the pickup trucks (Chrysler and F**d also) are getting too big and impractical.

You are right about that too. For a few years I had a 2003 Toyota Tundra 2WD. This model was pre-the enlarged one that came out in 2007. It was a great truck, best I ever owned, but of course it rusted out in the frame and I didn't want to go through getting it replaced. I replaced it with a new Ram in 2015. There are a lot of things I like about this truck, but it is big, unwieldy and has a monstrous turning radius. I'm sure the Ford and Chevy must be the same.

To me, that old Tundra was as large as needed for normal (i.e. non-commercial) consumer use.

My 99 GMC Suburban was built in Mexico, it used to bug me when it was new but I drove it off the showroom floor at CITY in September 1999 and here we are 21 years later and its still going strong.

I get that,but bragging about the milestone then not building where the legacy was made bugs me.

 Amen.

They lost their way a long time ago, and after their "restructuring" that resulted in Pontiac getting axed, they went STRAIGHT back to their old shtick of selling one model rebadged as multiple models...

About their trucks, this image really does illustrate well how their current offerings are too big;

/download.spark?ID=2357818&aBID=118110

I recently had opportunity to buy the only "cool" truck my maternal grandfather ever bought, a 1992 Chevrolet 1/2 ton 'Sport 4x4';
The only real downside is that he took too good of care of it while GM was offering repaints - so now it currently wears less than half of it's paint.
I haven't liked the trend that trucks in general have gone since the mid 1990's - To me they are now more or less oversized cars with (normally) a 6' box.

I also agree that Dodge's full sized cars are great cars, and I hope they continue to offer them;
If anything happens to one of our daily drivers I would be hard pressed to not get their two door offering.
