Of course I do BJ !

I was out for dinner about 15 years ago and sitting at the next tabe was Jungle Jay Nelson with his new trophy wife, wow it was like I died and went to heaven talking with the reknown disc jockey from CHUM.

Bob McAdorey was one of the most influential DJs in Canada at the time. We had CHUM charts and there was always a scramble to get the new ones each release to see what was #1 and then head out to buy it on a 45. I had an older sister born in early 50's so I was a real pain in the A with her friends when they were listening to the radio at their sleep overs. I had a crush on Barb Avery who was like 14 when I was 7 or 8 and was always trying to get a peek at whatever through those pajamas. Good times.

Oh ya and they always had that remote broadcast from the CNE where we actually could see the DJ's set up in that trailer on the main entrance just inside the Princess Gates. Usually jhad some crazy contest going on for CNE too.

CHUM-FM 104.5 is saved on my car radio to this day, When they went FM and stereo that was something.

Living out in the west and for the most part not much of a music fanatic I just looked up his bio to get an idea of his popularity.  I guess Ray time flies as he passed away 26 years ago in 1994.   Sounds like he was an absolute talent comparing him to Johnny Carson but had one weakness and that was the booze and their thoughts were that was what finally took him out.

LOL, ya so it was 27 or 28 years ago I'd say then, haha. Jungle Jay was my favourite though.

I worked for CKLW in Windsor in 1967. Boy that was a dream place to work back in the day for a young lad.

I started out as mailboy...I had to drive to the post office (in a 1962 Pontiac wagon) and pick up the station's mail

sort it,then distribute it. Paul Drew was the program director for the radio station and he started the "no dead air" format.

That meant if listening to CKLW you will never hear a pause between songs or the disc jockey.

The station was on Riverside Drive in Windsor and housed both radio and television.

I was mailboy for a month and then got a position as junior film ( real film) editor on the TV side.

My folks at the time lived in Warren,Michigan and on the weekends I would take the tunnel bus over to Detroit and then Detroit transit buses to Warren.

On the weekend of July 22/23 , I couldn't go to visit as I had to work. That was the weekend of the Detroit Riots.

Now: Q93 Charlottetownheadbang.gif, but mostly my own music.

I do not remember the 1950's at CHUM because I was born in 1958 but I sure remember the late 1960's and the 1970's with CHUM growing up. Stayed with CHUM and only CHUM until I discovered FM radio and progressive rock. I thank that radio station and hold them with great regard because they made my love for music possible. Like Bernie, I collected CHUM charts from 1968 to 1973 and all my charts were mint and like new, then one day they just vanished. To this day i do not know who took my many countless CHUM charts and why. I know my mom did not throw them out, so I am thinking one of my many goofy sisters took them. It was sad to see that radio station turn to just sports radio and then quickly vanished.
