Took the gas cap off the 65, and was startled!

Took the cap off today to add another 5 gallons. Turning the cap it liberally blew off with a rush of vapor. Cold gas became hot with the car on the street at 25c all afternoon.

Obviously the vent pipe is completely plugged. How? It's not kinked anywhere. Crazy.

Have you heard of this?

I assume then that means as you drive it's going to collapse too.

Is the cap vented. Did tank come with a new cap? Most likely should have a vented cap. Try the cap off your 67

My 64 US car does this as well. Cap is supposed to be vented, but blows off pressure as you can see the filler
pipe move when taking cap off. Does not do this this every time, cap is new when tank was put in a few years back
but has been an issue since on road, was gonna replace cap but have never got around to it. Let me know if you get a fix.
although they are supposed to be different systems.

At least with the Chevrolet B, 65-70, as far as I know, had a vented cap and a tank vent.

The thing definitely vented out.

Hey Mark on my convertible the vent was plugged and my cap says non vented.

The tank would get sucked in.

Long story short I replaced the tank left the non vented gas cap in place (I think non vented makes sense for acceleration as fuel cant leak out the cap)

Took compressed air and blew out the insect nests that were plugging the inside of the vent tube then reconnected the rubber line.

All good now

Not sure if the 65 is set up the same as the 67?

I use a non vented cap in my '65 Chevelle that has a vent tube and never had anything going on like you have Mark.

Thanks Guys.

It's probably just that, insect nests. The car had sat out in a driveway for a very long period of time, and I did find some old mud wasp nests underneath.

Whoever had the car last probably didn't notice a thing, as the gas cap was completely worn out and loose. I had put a new cap on it with the new tank.

I'll pull the vent flex hose off and blow it out.
