it is bid up to $9800 us and has 330 people watching.

 

in terms of the factory sales literature the only place this powertrain option is mentioned is on the back page of the us sales brochure.  it would be interesting to track down a canadian 60 chev brochure and see if there is any mention of that power train

Muncie was mid year, not sure when, but 63s came with either Muncie or T10. That one for $21,900 has to be a scam, that project may go that high as the 59 and 60 convertible is in high demand.

Hands down, one of my favorite Impalas is a 60. Every time I see one, I dream of having a convertible. Some day maybe but agree with Carl, that price seems very low compared to others.

Saw that. At 10 g..wow ,would be a 120g to fix! Can swap tags as they suggest thmmno..but find another vert to swap with!! Too many people watching Too many TV shows........     Sorry,pardon me...up to 15,900 US....

I'm going to question that being a "factory" 4 speed or even if it's a 4 speed?? blow up interior shot & you can see hole in floor [whats left of it] is very rough cut & shifter "appears to be a 3 speed" [ only 2 levers showing] old Foxcraft or Fenton shifter!!! Hmm maybe I'm wrong BUT!!!!

 Good eye! I agree that its an aftermarket three speed shifter. I have seen several 60 convertibles with a 283 and a three speed manual. I wouldnt be surprised if this car started out with a 283. Theres nothing on the data plate other than its a v-8 convertible. Unless there is documentation theres no way to be sure that it came new with a 348 tri-power.

Tell tale sign this 60 most likely came with a 348 cu.in.

These plastic emblems are installed in the center of an aluminum housing located in the middle of the grill.

A Chevrolet shield with no "V" below indicates that a 235 cubic inch inline six-cylinder engine is under the hood.

A Chevrolet shield with a gold "V" below it indicates that a 283 cubic inch V-8 resides inside.

Crossed flags with a gold "V" tell us that a 348 cubic inch V-8 is installed.

 

The rear of the car also carries an identifying emblem.

The shield, "V", and flags combination rules apply the same as for the grill emblem. 

The emblem on the rear of the car is also plastic, but it is housed by a chromed pot-metal retainer.

The "V" and the cross-flags are also chromed pot-metal.

The larger shield used on six-cylinder cars is actually the same part used on the trunk lid of 1956 Chevy V-8 cars.

I'm another one of those weirdos, Todd.  I've long been a fan of the '59/'60 sedan roofline, and in old cars I tend to like more plain jane models vs the dressed up ones.

One of the cars I regret selling most is my old '60 Bel Air.  It was a nice solid BC car that a local guy had bought off the typical little old lady original owner back in the 1980s and brought it east.  I remember seeing him driving it around back then and it appeared to be a really mint survivor car in Shadow Gray.  The guy who had it just drove it like a regular car so it did start to show some wear and tear.  At some point he gave it to his father, who then had it painted in a red and white scheme to mimic a '60 Impala that he had many years before, complete with the quarter panel stripe which was not correct for a Bel Air.  While he owned it, for some reason he ran straight water in the cooling system and let it freeze up through neglect, cracking the block.  I was told that they found an old worn out engine out of a truck (a 261? - not sure to this day) and popped it in to keep it going.

When I got it, the car was fairly well worn, but the body was in good shape - even though the previous owner had driven it in the winter, he had it Rust Checked, which seemed to have saved the integrity of the body.  The front seat was worn, but the back seat still had the old clear plastic seat covers on it, although they were cracking and yellowing and had some spots of paint on them from when the previous owner had used it to transport paint cans presumably.  The carpet was out of it as well, and the door panels had shown some water damage.  It was a fun car to drive, with 3 on the tree and manual steering - it could be a bit of a handful to keep up with modern traffic, but I was up to the challenge.  The engine was quite worn with a lot of blowback and the transmission did hang up between 1st and 2nd sometimes.

My plan for it was a restoration in the original Shadow Gray colour, with the only non stock consideration of possibly transplanting a small block and 4 speed, but I was also as likely to continue with the six and three on the tree - hadn't decided yet.  I had it for a couple of years but had just purchased my first new car and had 3 other cars, so I figured that I should be more practical and let the '60 go before I started sinking money into it.  I had wanted a '59 more than a '60, and figured I'd replace it with a '59 some day - which never happened as I never really found a good one.  This is one car that I regretted selling not long after it left the yard.

The one in the post above is type I see mostly today - customized to the point that the car no longer interests me, and priced to reflect the money that was put into customizing it, meaning I'd have to spend a bunch more money to undo what was done to it.  Just not my cup of tea.  Oh well, life goes on and I've found other things just as fun and interesting to fill my time with... smile
