I had a dream last night where I "realized" I still owned the 69 Dodge Coronet that I bought when I was 18. In the dream I was excited to post on this thread that I had it this long! biggrin

Then I woke up hmm

I've had about 80 cars since I was 17 years old but the duration of ownership was short for many of them, including the ones I parted out.

The ones I owned for the longest period of time were or are hobby cars, some of which I still own.

Top ten were:

63 Impala SS 327 2 dr ht - 26 years (gifted in family 2019)

69 Parisienne 427 coupe - 17 years (still own)

69 Caprice 396 4 dr ht - 17 years (gifted in family 2014)

68 Caprice 396 coupe - 15 years (still own)

65 Parisienne 283 convt - 9 years (sold 1996)

68 Impala Custom Coupe - 307 - 9 years (sold 1997)

69 Kingswood wagon - 396 - 8 years (still own)

68 Impala SS427 Impala convt - 7 years (still own)

One thing I forgot to mention was that my 69 Kingswood had a 350/300 HP engine with T350 trans, AC and PDB when I got it, while my 69 Caprice had a 396/265 2 bbl engine with a T400 trans, hideaways, AC and PDB. Before I turned the Caprice over to my brother I did a complete swap between the two cars. The Caprice got the 350, with everything changed including the emergency brake cables which are different between them. And the Kingswood got the complete 396 powertrain from the Caprice, which was treated to a mild performance rebuild before installation. I must have done a good job on the swap into the Caprice because a few days after I finished it, my brother drove it from St. John's NL to Goose Bay Labrador, a distance of 1600 kms, with no issues save for one flat tire.

Both cars have excellent rust free bodies, the Caprice being from North Carolina and the Kingswood from California. I would have liked to keep both but my desire for a wagon was greater than for a 4 dr ht, plus I enjoyed and drove the Caprice a lot during my 17 years of ownership. Still, it was hard to part with the Caprice, since my wife purchased it for me as a surprise in 1997 when my oldest two children were infants, after I sold my 65 Parisienne and 68 Impala Custom. But it went to a good home, and it is still in very good condition.

Neat thread;
Threads like this serve to really show the age of the group.

I still have my first car;
My 1970 Firebird Formula 400
I got it in the summer of 1995 shortly after graduating.
If my math is correct, that's twenty-five years!

3146160008_large.jpg

This picture was taken the evening, the day after we got it back to my dad & step-mom's house.

Then next best is my seventh car, a 1991 Grand Am High Output Quad4;
This was actually my third Quad4/5speed Grand Am;
I got it in 2007, so thirteen years now.

IMG_1001.JPG

I bought it out of Fresno California;
This was probably on day #3 of ownership;
I drove it to San Francisco, then connected to the coastal highway north of San Fran;
I believe this picture is somewhere on the Oregon coast.

This was my first real road trip car;
This was also the first car that I actually took to the track repeatedly;
I have taken this to and from California (my mom lives there) several times, and gone as far as the Pontiac Nationals in Norwalk Ohio - where I had poor consistency, but beat the pants off of many boosted V6 Grand Prix's (I attended and to have more fun entered in the FWD class).

IMG_4092s.jpg

The next best, is probably my only new car I will ever buy;
It is also the tenth car I have owned;
My 2009 Cobalt SS;
I bought it in early 2010, so ten years now.

IMG_0388br.jpg

This picture was taken by my brother, while I was signing the papers - so I hadn't yet officially taken ownership;
That's my niece, the car looks pretty the same today (it's showing it's age here and there), but my niece looks a whole lot different now! lol

IMG_0931.JPG

This picture was taken at the parking lot for Multnomah Falls in Oregon;
I have taken this car many places but mostly between Portland and LA (family).

 You saw all of these and more when you were here. You have a very well stocked stable yourself!

I should have done what gparis (John) did...

My Rag was my very first car and it snowballed from there.... All of the above list is STILL with me... plus others. There are a few that I did get rid of but these have stayed.

 If I'd had the space I probably would have kept more of mine, especially the Pontiacs. But you do what you have to. I definitely took the short term view with my 65 Pontiac Parisienne. When my two oldest kids were born in the mid 90s, I found it was uncomfortable for them as infants (and concerning for me from a safety perspective) to be driving around in an open ragtop on hot days with lap belts only, so I made the decision to sell it. What I didn't quite factor in was how quickly they would grow up and alleviate those concerns. It didn't matter in the end; I didn't have the space at the time to park it for 10 years, so I had to let an excellent car go.

'86 Corvette coupe, bought new in Ottawa in January of '86, gifted to our late son's friend as a high school graduation present in August of '08. '62 Impala SS 409 hardtop acquired in October of '98, and still owned, and driven regularly. Roughly the same duration, although the Real Fine 409 will take the crown imminently.
