RE: anyone in Ontario buy a car from Alberta with just a bill of sale?

the mto will tell you what is needed based on the jurisdiction that the car comes from. they are aware that different areas have different requirements. ie some states do not have title requirements for cars that are a certain age. so u can in that case register with a bill of sale. the mto may also ask for documentation for the vehicle that has changed hands several times without each or owner registering it. we have all bought a project car with the signed ownership from the 3 rd guy who is not the guy on the ownership. i had to for my 1940 ford  each guy had bought it legally.  but never bothered to tell the mto.

cars branded in other jurisdictions.(salvage or rebuilt) can Not be re registered in legally in ontario  as anything but salvage ie a parts car car. ontario has a a system for getting rebuilt cars back on the road  but does not accept any other jurisdictions rebuilt system

i did stop in to service Ontario and they said to bring them the vin for a start. as for salvage title from the US i was able to get the car registered in Ontario because the reason for salvage was abandonment . that is the only reason they except. Stolen, fire or damage no way

My stepson had a 2009 Dodge pickup that was repaired before he owned it. It has a rebuilt title and was told about the title before he bought it. He had good service out of the truck for almost nine years and then replaced it with a 2012 used Ram truck. He told me that the truck with the rebuilt title he wasnt able to insure it with collision or comprehensive coverage. The insurance company would only give him liability insurance on a vehicle with a rebuilt title. Just something to think about.
