FOUND ONE : Looking for a good, reliable, cheap car for my daughter

Hi guys,

Anybody out there have a cheap car they've been thinking about selling ?
I've got a daughter whose older Honda Civic just "gave up the ghost" and we're looking to replace it.

Regards, Scott (LandShark ...)

Well, I was talking to our favorite mechanic here in London and I mentioned to him that we were looking for a car for my daughter, and sure enough, he said he has
a client that was bringing in a car to check what it would need for a safety because he was going to sell it. It was his son's who moved to Thunder Bay and bought a truck so the car
wasn't being used at all.  One look and a little drive around the block and I bought it for 1700 dollars.

All it will need for a safety is a small hole in the rocker panel patched (did that yesterday) and a broken spring replaced (got the spring for tomorrow).
It's almost a new car. Literally not a mark on it, interior is perfect and even the headlights are clear. I'll put snow tires on this week as well, as the current tires are getting old and cracked.

Best of all, it has ONLY 38000 kms on it. Even the lady at the license bureau asked me to confirm that. She thought maybe I put a typo on the form. Here's some pics :

I wouldn't normally go for this vintage and make of car, but it was just too good to pass up. 2004 Pontiac Sunfire.

Another Pontiac in the family.

Regards, Scott (LandShark ...)

We had a 97 with a V6. Decent car that really flew. I'd never had given those a second glance, but owing to as they are never seen anymore, I'd say thats a pretty neat car! Hope it is good to you!

I bought one of those as a Christmas present for my wife in what seems like 1994, I guess so it was a 1995 Model, 2.2. I got a call from Addisons and he said you've got 30 seconds to make up your mind, I'm getting a green Sunfire in , its on a train coming from Mexico, do you want it ? When they came out they were so popular they had these nifty commercials with red and black ones stunt driving. I said OK and it did look good with a big red bow. We only kept it for 28,000 kms then upgraded to the Suburban for her but never had an ounce of trouble. I'd routinely drive that thing at 1*0  kph on the 401 and 400.

I never knew they came with V6's Mark, that must have flown because the 2.2 was no slouch. I enjoyed driving that car.

I was mistaken Ray, I was just told that it was a 94 SunBIRD GT V6. Still.

That body style sends me back to a funny work story.

Back around 2003 we had a new Sunfire body in white (unpainted) sitting up on display at the Galvanizing line I worked on. We supplied steel for it, and this was to showcase our Automotive exposed quality material. One day a tour from GM Lordstown came through, and we all heard they were really upset. Why? Someone had written in magic marker some "Ford" ovals on it with a big and nicely printed "PINTO" right across the trunk lid, and of course it stood out like a sore thumb. The body disappeared a week later and the bosses were royally pissed.

No sense of humor I guess. Wink wink..

I dont know if its normal or not, but a friends daughter had a Sunfire and in the winter on a slushy day the ABS module was noisy when activated. If I recall the module was mounted to the firewall and the noise transferred into the car and was quite loud. Once we figured out what the noise was he never thought about it again. It was interesting trying to find out what was causing the noise because his daughter had trouble explaining it. Just a heads up if there is a complaint about a loud strange noise when braking this winter.
