Does anyone know what RPO CC2 is?

It's the Auxillary Hardtop for a C4 Corvette and a $1,995 option when the cars were new and available 1989-96. A high production of 2,372 units in 1990 to a low of 429 units in 1996.

The top was mandatory for racing a convertible Corvette and as such it has an integrated roll bar manufactured into the structure. Heavy brackets bolt into the frame behind the seats on the convertible and are said to created structural rigidity that surpasses the Corvette Coupe. The top bolts to the car in 6 locations and takes about 30 minutes to complete the procedure with two people.

The top iis finished just like any interior of a car and if you are lucky you will get a factory package tray insert. The tops have a rear window defroster for years 94-96, and when installed create a completly different car in terms of rigidty and quiet when compared to the soft top.

With production being less that 4% of the number of convertibles made this option falls into the "rare and desireable" Category and carries a price tag that reflects this.

I passed on one that I saw for sale before and when I saw a this one come up within an hour of me I had to pull the trigger. It was delivered to day and 65camino came over and we test fitted it. It is an immaculate condition original equipment part finished in a beautiful red, ashame that I have to paint it. Right now it looks like a Christmas Corvette! I was fortunate to purchase this from a member of the Corvette Club here in Ontario, he brought it up from the states years ago and never used it BUT he had everything that the factory issued, all bolts, tools and brackets, roof hoist, cover and package tray. When he delivered it and saw my car he said he was so pleased to see it was going on a nice car with a legit owner, that was a very nice remark and a great way to do business.

after I bought my 2002 Thunderbird I join a site called thunderbirdnest.com  most cars were ordered with the hard top option. Here in Canada it was $5500. as years went on people started buying and trading different coloured tops with each other. Instead of shipping they started a top relay. Guy would drive it to to the next closes member have a meet and greet, put the top on the next guys car and he would drive to the next members. These tops were going right across the country

I had a 73 Corvette roadster with a hardtop before and after I got married. I put the hardtop on every fall and left it on until later spring when the weather was warming up. I really liked the look of it on the car looking better than the convertible top. There weren't many roadsters of that generation neither that had hardtops. That was one of the best cars I owned as far as an investment. Owned it for around 7 years, drove all the way to Mexico with it and after that time of ownership sold it for about 5 thousand more than I paid for it. Put alot of miles on it like I tend to do but they were free miles with that car. Good memories of going down the Oregon and California coast on our honeymoon.

Well 65camino suggested driving to get the top and putting it on. I balked at that because driving to the country north of TO this time of year can get discey add in I aready put the hiatus insurance on the car for the winter. I think it would have been fun driving the red and green combo  down HWY 400 though.

I'll post more  pictures once I get it painted in the spring. Enjoyed reading your hardtop stories fellas, people I have discussed this with who have them say it is like having two different cars, two for one kind of deal. The one thing I notice right away is the size of the rear window which is substantially more area on the hardtop vs, soft top. I think I'll do what you did Jerel put it on end of September and take it off mid to late April. Reality is here in Toronto we have only had three days of snow so far this season that would make it next to impossible to drive a Corvette so I could easily extend my driving season into November with the hardtop and start begining of April. Definitely puts a distinctive look on the car just like all Generations before it. I'd have to say my favourite Hardtopp is the C2 howver the C3 looks great as well.

Obviously it would be silly to say it fits just like it was made for the car....it was,  but the fit is impressive, the fastening points and engineering, the weather stripping and window fit are all just perfect. It did take about 45 minutes to put it on properly but for our first time I though it went very well and we gained some good knowledge for future removals and placement. The roll bar mounting brackets for instance are now installed and will remian on the car so that saves us 10 minutes going forward. The front windshield mounting points took us another 15 minutes but now we know the trick to fitting the bolts through the windshield frame and into the roof, likewise with the rear points. As usual 65camino was a tremedous help.

We all know Corvette owners live and die by the numbers so it's easy to get production data on the cars and options. So the data says my car is one of three made Polo green, beige roof and luggage carrier, it's really the luggage carrier that makes it a one of three. Now the data shows that no polo green cars with hardtop made it to Canada in 1993, so yes I will have a distictive looking car once the project is done. Now to be sure my car is originally a Missouri car and the hardtop is from a US car too so I just mention the production data as the liklihood of seeing another one here is very remote.

This purchase has to fall within the priviledge we call " Big Boys and their toys", a Birthday gift to myself or early Christmas present is what I've been say. Nonetheless I am very happy with this acquistion.

O ya Todd, that was a neat look and a fun car, my wife's cousin bought a new one for a summer back around 76 or 77, we had a lot of fun runnig around Georgian Bay in that car. He sold it in September so litterally he had for the summer.

I had in my mind a C4 Z06 look given they never made a Z06 C4 so I always had green body colour on my mind they way the Z06 was produced below:

I'm rethinking this now, even wondering about a vinyl roof covering too. The aftermarket Smoothline roof is available in vinyl roof cover. CLICK

I'd have to say no to the vinyl covering. It'd look too "Florida-ish"

For a quick and changeable fix it I'd get it wrapped, even consider carbon fiber. I was thinking of wrappingvmy black hood with it for a change.

Well we painted the top this past weekend, put 16 hours into it. Three coats base, three coat clear, block sanded for hours buff and cut. Turned out real nice. Found defroster wires in existing harness, tested defroster, all good, switch already in dash for heated mirrors too. Just placed roof on car and drove it out in daylight to see how it looks. I'll bolt it in place in a couple of days.. I'm pretty happy with it. Thanks to 65Camino and others for help with this.
