"...on the way home when I finally managed to exercise my right foot. Instead of 400 horses, I got 310, and the mountain of torque I was expecting turned out to merely be the 271 pound-feet of GMs damned-near-ubiquitous, plain ol normally aspirated V6."

He describes my exact experince with the new Cadillacs and a primary reason they lost a loyal customer. I even doubt the engine produce 310 horespower, what a slug that 3.6 is.

Not unprecedented; Buick marketed its nailhead based on the max torque (SAE Gross) output, back in the '60s.

left leaning poor humour on the part of the writer aside;

wow, simply wow.

How far will GM go to try to grasp at it's former glory.

They could still make great cars if they want, but all indicators (to me at least) seem to point at the fact that GM is simply not interested in making truly great cars anymore.

Lies, or what ever this might be described as, is just icing on the cake.

The entire Cadillac aura is now a lie. Changing brands was really hard for me but now I have what a great decison. My new car makes no excuses, it says what it is.

I couldn't force myself to read through the entire article, but did Cadillac ever display engine displacement or horsepower on the trunk lid?  I stopped following the brand after the 1980s admittedly, but the whole thing sounds like much ado about nothing.

IMHO, it is just following the practice of using another random group of numbers or an alpha numeric name plate that lacks all creativity whatsoever.  I always thought it was just because 'Euro' buyers went for that type of thing over an actual name that meant something or at least sounded good when you said it.  American and Asian companies adopted similar naming strategies in the 1990s to make them seem more European (and thus attractive to buyers?), rather than just embracing their own car culture and attaching their own creative nameplate to it.  Somewhere along the line I lost interest... smile

Not so, My ambition is to own another one. The late models sedans are just Chevrolets with Cadillac badges. I also think there is a concerted effort by Cadillac executive to shed the tradition Cadillac buyer, people like me, and move to a younger more hip crowd. A Cadillac still turns my head, in fact the guy I gave my '06 to drives by every so often and it still looks great, probably will run for years to come.

I worked at Canada's only exclusive Cadillac/Hummer dealership when it opened in 2003. I remember the new CTS caused quite a stir with it's "European" styling and handling. We had more than one customer buy one and demand we put Cadillac Emblems on it (usually from an older model Deville) so that all their friends at the country club would know they still had a Caddy. I did like the Deville DTS that was sold at that time. I remember a nice black one we had with the polished wheels and the night vision option. I'll also never forget the woman who was about 15 years older than me who drove a diamond white Seville who wanted to take me home with her....but that's another story.wink
