Feature Cars Needed for 2021

I just realized today that I don't have any feature cars lined up for the months ahead. Like this months feature car many great cars are hiding in plain site. If you would like your car featured or would like to nominate someone's car please don't hesitate to PM me.

Thanks

Todd

Hey Todd I wonder if it would be an idea to feature Canadian ponchos that aren't roadable as well. There are a lot of interesting field, barn and boneyard cars that might make a good feature too. In fact they may outnumber the nice cars by quite a bit.

Maybe some guys have some interesting future projects stashed away that might have stories, or are just interesting body styles etc.

Kind of opens it up a bit?

Sure, especially if there's an interesting story about the car.

Exactly. One of my favourite feature cars of all time was your brother's car Ken. Hardly a show car but man, what a history and what a car!

I do agree with Todd though, it should have some kind of story with it.

Bumping this up. Only a couple of weeks left until 2021 and I have nothing to feature yet.

Since other people ar floating ideas I'll join in too.

The project car idea may be better served with its own section for posting. My rationale is that the Feature Car is a primary representation of the brand and communication tool to the ourside world so it is best to put your best foot forward from a marketing point of view. Not everyione who comes here is a regular and from a business point of view growth in membership has to be a goal for sustainability and income. Placing a rotted project on the Mast Head is probably not the best idea. By all means have a section on the forum for project cars. Most regulars are good at keeping the core imformed anyway. So I favour good drivers to show and race examples as featrure cars.

Next there have been about 200 feature cars since 2008, that's a lot and it does take a lot of work, maybe the well is getting dry. A tried and true method used in the entertainment industry is the Oldie Goldies...the rerun. I am sure there are plenty of past feature cars that have had modifications and upgrades made to them that would be noteworthy for another feature. I am not suggesting my own car but it is an example of a car that is actually significantly different today than when it was featured. Mine can't be the only one.

Then we have the idea that has been floated many times before, open up the feature car criteria to consider additional models. GMC trucks are really no different from Acadians and Beaumo9nts as they were sold alongside Pontiacs as well. We had a Firebird once which was a departure seeing it was not a Canadian car but built in the USA, but plenty of Firebirds have been built here they just seem to be outside the years considered. For that matter Grand Prixs, Astres and Sunbirds have been bult here but we have never seen any at the top of the page. There were special interest models of all of them, What about the Grand Prix 2+2, that would make a nice feature car.

This isn't easy for Todd to obtain and write up the cars each month and for my part I want to thank Todd for this special effort which is clearly a distinquishing part of the forum, always intersting and something we all look forward to and very much appreciate.

Here's one sitting under our noses:

Guys, a couple of the coolest Canadian Poncho feature cars ever have not been "mainstream" Canadian Ponchos.

1) The 65 Custom Sport 409 4 speed belonging to one of our members brother. Car is in it's original state (but needs LOTS of attention). Still one of the most memorable feature cars ever.

2) Beaumontguru's 67 Beaumont 4 door winter car that hasn't seen summer for over 20 years!

These two cars especially show that your car does not have to be a nice original car, a nice restored car, or even a completed car to be an interesting feature car. We've seen cars with less than driver quality paint jobs, incomplete interiors, lots of imperfections and THAT is all part of this hobby. C'mon guys, please help Todd out with his search. I think a lot of us don't appreciate how much effort goes into keeping this place running like he does, and this is a way to make his life a bit easier.

For the record if I opened up the CP site on the first day of a new month and saw something like this on the page header I would not be disappointed in the least. This is just one of lots of examples of Canadian Pontiac history still out there, waiting their turn to be discovered and revived.

My 2¢ worth, recognizing that it's completely up to Todd, who created the site, puts in all the work, and pays the bills... while the rest of us just sit back and enjoy.  Below are just my random thoughts:

I'd rather see vehicles featured that encompass the purpose of the forum: unique Canadian Pontiacs and the other 'almost-Pontiacs' (i.e. Acadians, Beaumonts, etc.) that were sold and/or built in Canada (which could include Aussie Pontiacs produced in Canada, for example).  The main criteria would be 'not US' Pontiacs, for the simple reason that the US segment of the Pontiac hobby is flooded with forums - the Canadian aspect is what keeps this site special, and is the reason I started coming here in the first place.  Also, there are plenty of truck forums out there, so IMHO including GMCs could water down the concept of the forum somewhat.

My thought process tends to fall more in line with Carl's, as a super-rare Canadian-only project car, like a 427 Grande Parisienne wagon or 409 Custom Sport Parisienne project would be way more interesting to somebody seeking out unique Canadian Pontiac info than any car that was also sold by the hundreds of thousands in the US.

I also think the story is important as well as it brings the car to life.  However, sometimes that's not possible as these cars are old and most often have large parts of the car's history lost to time.  So IMHO a good story is a bonus, but at least for me it really makes a difference in how it relates to me.

Recognizing the difficulty in getting members to offer up their cars for monthly features, I think Ray's idea of 'reruns' of cars previously featured but changed or updated is a good one.  I think the key factor, though, is the uncontrollable - getting members to step up and offer their cars for monthly features.  I know it is a huge challenge to do on a monthly basis, so hopefully there will be some help for Todd coming from the members who are in a position to do so.

Just a thought - how about featuring cars that members have owned previously but no longer possess?  I know that a lot of people have owned some pretty cool cars that were sold over the years for whatever reasons.  IMHO, if they fit within the Canadian Poncho criteria and have good photos and stories attached, they could be fair game.  What do you think?
