A vestige of the days when GM REALLY was a technology leader - torque tube with a transaxle in this model, later an SOHC 6 cylinder. And, of course, the turbocharged, air-cooled flat 6 in the Corvair, albeit accompanied by the "swing axle" IRS that launched Ralph Nader's career.
