Love this stuff. This old Ford handles well for such a big beast.

Doesn't it look like he's just living on the edge in every turn? I love it!

After I watched this video I found a ride-along video and sat in the car for 10 minutes. Pretty darn sweet, he's shifting it at 6500 rpm.

The 69 LT1 that I dropped into my first 72 Nova redlined at 6500. After my brother-in-law tuned it and set the lifters, if I hit it right, the first to second shift pulled the front wheels. That car/engine combo was a blast to drive!

Gotta love Chevy small blocks.  What I love is this one is a big block!

It's on my bucket list to go to Goodwood some day. This Studebaker does well.

as does this Thunderbird

That was a great race to watch, a whale racing mackerel? Reminds me of the 61 impala 409 of Dan Gurney at Goodwood.

It's interesting to compare what can be done with modern mods to these old girls - consider this was state of the art around the time that Galaxie was competitive.  WAY more body roll, and they needed a lot more time to brake than the one at Goodwood.  No substitute for cubic inches, but road-hugging weight does create some liabilities, too...biggrin

Periodically, I get a wild hair about doing over the '62 SS 409, but it's so original, I lose my nerve when the time comes to get serious.  I confess, though, Armstrong steering and "throw out the anchor" brakes, not to mention the absence of a/c, are taking more and more enjoyment out of taking it to shows or cruises, especially in the steamy NC summers.

That would be an "R" code Galaxie 7Ltr 427. Very hard to find these days but would love the chance/opportunity to own one-any day,all day. If there is an "R" in the vin of a Ford/Mercury it will have a 7 Ltr = 427,428,429. Zero exceptions..........

Can you imagine being the guy in one of those Minis with that Ford breathing down your neck?

And worse yet, knowing there's a straight just up ahead and he make you feel like you just slammed on your brakes?

LOL, yeah, some of those cars might feel like a speed bump to that Galaxie!
