First Day of Winter and we Get This.

You guys are gonna laugh I know, but this is what happened yesterday. Kaos on the highways, well if you know the west Island

There is a Small mountain between Victoria and the rest of the Island, Well it does play Havoc with the cars during snow time.

Hopefully Jim did not have to go out in it. Semi's jack knifed and mass confusion on the Hill. Took my buddy close to 5 hours to get home.

Usually takes 1/2 hour. It started out monday with heavy rain turning to heavy WET snow early in the AM, 6:30. Was not supposed to add to much at lower levels.

Well we ended up with ten inches and power outages all day. Got power back just past midnight. generator got it's first run. Now freezing so we have some

large bumps in63028482216__9F565C02-326D-45AA-A31B-C46ED4EC05C6.JPG the driveway.

It is where he lives, Inside the garage, LOL. This stuff is the wet very slippery stuff, almost as bad as black ice, once
you start sliding there is no stopping it. Well until you either hit the ditch or somebody else. Will be plus 10 soon. Sunny the next few days.

Ya..what a cluster F#2k!!! Drove the tandem around 5 stuck cars on West Saanich rd. Then got to Keating X rd and a bus was in the ditch and I was a 1/4 mile from the shop!! Waited 20 min to get around that mess! Was going to head to Sidney..then thought.....If the idiots plug the roads....... Just parked for the day.... Was also a gong show heading home. My F-350 4x4 crew cab was parked in my driveway at home...but made her home in the Cavalier..no problem.   My up Island day is tomorrow..

This is our Friday "Special weather statement".

"There remains considerable uncertainty as to the exact track of the low pressure system responsible for the rain and snow. This will ultimately affect how much snow may fall at a particular location."

Supposed to be 11 here on Christmas Day. The last time it was mild on Christmas day was 2014 when it was 15. Then we had over 50 feet of snow Jan-March

Well our blizzard fizzled. I see no new snow this morning and nothing on the radar. Wind is howling like crazy and cold though but now they say -4 Christmas day. That's pretty nice for us this time of year.

Well, we started off with no power, so no hot shower to ease the stiff back. Them my wife arose, grumpy because the magic beans couldn't be brewed, so I put the kettle on the BBQ, waited forever for it to be hot enough, then poured it through the coffee maker. it was passable. Then had to scrape several inches of frozen snow off the vehicles. got in the truck to head to my first call, and realized the plow had plowed us in with big chunks of frozen snow. so after 45 minutes of shovelling, I could finally leave!

First call was a raccoon under someones home.

I can relate. We've had two 4 day power outages here. Thank God we have the woodstove and generator but after day four I've had enough of it.

As Rick mentioned at the beginning of the thread, dont like to complain about Winter too much as our friends to the East get hammered a lot worse, ours usually only lasts for a few days at a time. That said were about an hour East on Vancouver up against the mountains so weather can very quite drastically.

Hoping I can get my new Beaumont outside in the sunlight for first time since I bought it!

Im kind of jealous. I actually like the snow. I know it can be a pain sometimes but I like it in the winter time. .. I sold my place in GTA and this time when I buy my other place, Im going to look for a place where there is snow this time around.

I'm with you. The thing I love the most about where I live is the 4 seasons. Yes it's fun to go to Arizona for a while in the winter (not this year!) but we do it for my wife's health more than anything. I love clearing snow. My neighbour laughed at me the other day when I told him to leave the snow on his driveway so I could clear it for him!
