No PM’s only when selling parts

Sooo.... I have run into this myself. If you have a part up for sale and someone posts about buying it and then another pms you..... who is first? You cant prove you responded before the PM because you cant see it!!!! My thinking is all responding should make it visible so we know who was 1st. Have felt awkward because this has happened to me. Just think it should all be public so all of us know the dealing and whats going on.

No PM’s when selling parts

Some respond on the ad, some by pm. If I responded on the ad and someone else by pm, Id take your word on which response arrived first. Thats life if I came second?

i kinda like all responses to be a PM. I personally like to sort out the buyer that needs the part from the guy that just wants to resale  it

Perhaps an interested party could post publicly "PM Sent" and then there'd be a time stamp.

Remember when a phone call was the only way to contact a seller?

Your phone is screwed to the wall in the kitchen. You spend the day running errands, chasing parts and loose women. Home again with a cold box of beer, the phone rings. The voice says, "Hi, I called earlier but nobody answered." Earlier than what? Did you miss two calls or just one?

What if you know who made first contact, but that person doesn't respond to your reply right away? Do you leave the second guy hanging? The third? Compile a waiting list? No system is perfect and I have to agree with Don.

As a seller, i have always gone with the first PM, most cases the buyer will also post in the ad "pm sent", but not always,  so i just go with the first PM.

As a buyer, i do both and hope for the best,  that way everyone sees my "pm sent" message, and from there i just hope im the first PM the seller gets, and like Don said, if i miss out, oh well, its just car parts after all!

But i know what you mean Jim,  it can get complicated, ive missed out on stuff, and i had one guy a number of years ago tear me a new ahole because he thought he was first in line, but was actually not.  and he got downright nasty for no reason, and we never had dealings with eachother ever again, and i really dont care.

I just go with the first PM, and its kind of the honor system,   i mean, the first PM is a buyer with cash in hand, so why would i turn him down in favour of a second or third in line.

I forget which site it is that I read where they have a rule that seems to work well. You must post "PM sent" as well as send a PM when you are interested. That way it keeps the seller and the buyer both accountable because on that site I guess at one point there was a seller who's integrity was in question. I don't think we've had that issue here but I've always thought that's not a bad way to do it.

Bottom line is it's only car parts!

I do like this suggestion, but to be honest, I always accept what the sellers tell me because I always trust them, unless they give me a reason not to. And everyone I have dealt with on this site has always been fair with me.

Ive had people back out after agreeing to a deal but also offered me a lower price. I dont deal with them again, why would I, even if they had offered the same deal again, imho they cant be trusted. It was the only problem Ive ever had and it was someone on here Carl. Ive never said who it was.

The deal we made was fair and I sold it to someone else fairly quickly for the same money. Lifes too short to deal with aholes.

Reminds me of discussion I had with a guy once about a nice car he had for sale. Initial asked price asked  was quite good, but every time I talked to him the price kept going up. Could have been partly my own fault for not moving on it at the first offer but on the other hand I took it as the price for the car.

Interesting points. They all make sense. How about if you don't want to sell to the person no matter how much they would offer you. You can call me a prick but I've had a couple of those situation on here over the years and I even messaged them and told them why I wouldn't sell to them, I didn't like the way they did business. Seller is still in control but as a buyer you need to trust the seller but he may not like you and you can just keep looking! No harm done. We all have the same interests but it doesn't mean we would all want to sit around the same table and share a drink. Most of the guys, yes.

If I want something I always send a PM right away and post PM sent in the thread. Because Chances are the seller is going to see the PM first anyways because its going to show in their personal email, that they have a PM awaiting from a member. Unless they are subscribed to that thread/post they started to receive replies when anyone replies to the thread. If that makes sense..
