Successful weekend

Its been a very productive three days on the convertible project. I started on Friday with a bare frame, added the differential, then tried to instal front suspension but ran into a wrong spring problem. I skipped that job and went onto installing the motor, transmission, drive shaft. Saturday I installed the dual exhaust system. I then made a dolly to sit under front crossmember to help roll car out of garage. Finally I masked off all but the front firewall, then painted it.  Today I built a frame to lift body up while I slid the chassis under, lowered it down onto frame. I will spend the rest of the day bolting it together.

Good for you Lawrence. You've saved another 65 from the crusher. That looks like it is coming along very nicely.

How did you slide the chassis under the body?

I built a temporary post and beam right above the spots where the convertible roof frame mounts (it seemed to be the strongest area for lifting) and used a chain block. And at the front I used the centre beam and hooked into the inner mounts at the base of the firewall. Then lifted it up high enough to roll the chassis under it, then lowered it down on each chain block till it set down on body mount.
Add bolting it down, gas tank, e-brake cables and wiper transmission to list of done items.

This is now I did my Parisienne.   3 x 10' long 2" x 6" screwed together to make a beam, with a chain going down to the seat belt retractor hole on each side.  I used my engine hoist at the back of the car, with a chain going to the bumper bolt holes.

I used a farmer jack to jack up the beam, and just moved side to side.   And jacked up the rear when necessary to make it halfway level.
