The red car image is an actual genuine 4 speed car isn't it Carl? Chevrolet. The blue is my fake 65 CP. For what is worth, I went with the assembly illustration placement of the lower cable clip. It had a firewall dimple there as well.

My guess is the guy on the line with the screw gun could have chosen whatever dimple he felt like using at that moment. As such, either position is probably "correct". Oh, and there is supposed to be a welded on clip on the passenger floorpan as well. I can't remember if mine had it.

I took Carls advice and made a cable grommet hole when I could sit in on the crossmember when doing it. Thanks Carl. Sorry about your back during the learning curve.

Good thing you posted that. One more reminder if you haven't done it already. The hole in the firewall for the 4 speed backup light harness. It's in the last pic you posted Kevin.

Yes, the red one is a genuine 4 speed car.

LOL, my back has had worse than that but it wasn't much fun doing it. I'm jealous of guys who can do it with the engine/trans out.

This shows it better. It's a rubber seal with a groove in it with 2 wire terminals in a "T" formation.

And I can't quite see for certain but I think the wire right beside the white circle might be the tach wire?

as like Mike my 66 sits with nothing being done to the car for months now. Took my money and ran. I did get some work done so not all money is gone. I am told the land lord took this unit back and my car is the only thing there sitting on the hoist. other cars are out side with tarps on themno
