RE: 66 Grande in the garage.....only took 2 1/2 months to purchase!!!!

Had time to play tonight as some parts showed up and also had some other parts in stock.... Tonight's list, oil change, valve cover gaskets ( ones on the car were harder than my wife's diamond ring!! and leaked), fuel filter, headlight and dimmer switch plus a few other things. All went well and everything done except the one thing to move the car. Anyone notice a problem with the oil filter system? Soon as I pulled it apart I was WTF...no filtration here!! Will be post a thread on looking for drop down cone. What some people do..........

If no one close can help out I can ship it out to you or would it be best to get an adapter plate and use a screw on filter for the trip?

I picked up an adapter for a screw on filter at Lordco (BC based auto parts chain, there's one in every town) a year or so ago.   I think it was about $20.

Thanks to Ken I had one made up in 20 minutes! Five minutes later dad called and said he found one in all our junk......go figure. Got everything back together and flashed her up. With no exhaust leaks I can now hear...tic...tic..tic!! Knew it wasn't bottom end but... wristpin/valve? Pulled covers off to adjust and found one new rocker with a new nut. Old nut was still in the oil valley at the bottom of the head!

Luv playing on the lathe so much...just might start throwing parts over my shoulder....wink

think so...adjusted the newer rocker.and a few of the others. Seems quiet, but only ran for a minute with cover off and getting late. Will button up tomorrow and double check. Thinking all is good now. I have had a few rockers bust in half on my 283's. They can wear sharp as a knife at the bottom... Might throw 2 in for Mark..just in case. If one broke on the old girl.....

Dirty...but not that bad. Covers had carbon on them...but have seen a lot worse!! Bit of sludge on the lower head port by the oil drain ports..but not bad for a 50 year old girl!! Think she will do just fine. WE put a brick on the gas pedal of a 283 wanting to blow it up....got tired of waiting and had to drain the oil!!! No lie!!

When I was an apprentice in the mid 70s I put a used 283 in a 65 Impala. The used engine was an oil burner. The Auto Wrecker was literally next door so they said they would pull another engine for us. The boss went out and started the 65 up and put a brick on the gas pedal. It screamed away for over an hour and then, ran out of gas!

Car is heading East! So I thought I would send a couple of "BUDS" of mine along with the car so Dougie has someone to play with when it arrives. Strapped in and should make the trip fine. We will see how many transport guys can resist that imported BC beer! biggrin Don't forget to share Doug!! 1 for you 1 for Kevin...    What does Mark drink???

She has left the rock and heading East. Put her on the Sea Span barge for the ride. Was a nice "last" cruise with her. Ran smooth and not a wiggle in the wheel. Have fun when she gets there Kevin! Sent a treat in the glove box for you and Dougie. wink

Shoot, I wish I knew when it's passing through Winnipeg, I'd toss a care package into it.

Should be quite a sight a 66 Grande passing through Winnipeg on a barge! Maybe its going down the west coast and through the Panama, across the Caribbean, up the east coast and through the St Lawrence Seaway?

Those things are so heavy it's likely another barge would get grounded in the Panama Canal if they went that way.

I guess I'm missing something.  It's being loaded onto a barge, I thought it was being transported via car Carrier from Vancouver Island to Ontario.

Not to worry, Clint. When he said she has left the Rock and heading east, I thought for a second it was in Newfoundland and headed over seas to the Europeans.. haha.

she is taking a ride on the barge from Van Island to Van main land where she gets loaded on a carrier that will drop it in Calgary. A carrier from my area will pick it up from there and bring it to Ontario. I wish I had attached a tracking devise to it to watch its movement

Me too, I'd love to intercept it and hold it hostage here for a week or two for "alterations".....
