Very cool indeed. A couple of family members had 68-69 Buick A bodies. I wasn't always a fan of the styling but they have grown on me, so much that when a clean one comes up for sale at a good price, I always want to buy it, especially if it's a 2 door post car.

Of course I don't act on every impulse; speaking practically, I can't buy everything I'd like to have. But I can admire them.

That is cool, love the slightly lowered stance with aftermarket wheels! Price isnt ridiculous either!

Would a '70 hood fit on that car- a GS snorkel hood of course. That would be cool.

You'd have to stick to the 69 hood as the style changed in 1970. I always wanted a 70-72 Buick wagon but they are super hard to find.

In my opinion I think the '70-'72 GS hoods are nicer. But that's me..........

My preference is the 69 hood, but I can tell you that my Dad once had the Service Manager's car as a courtesy car while our 70 Tempest was down, a 1970 Skylark that I didn't want him to return. It was a Buick 350 and vastly outpowered the Pontiac.

The Buick 350 is a good motor. In 1970 you could specify the 350-4 "High Compression" in any Skylark. It was rated at 315hp and was the same motor that came in the base Gran Sport. it had 10.25:1 compression. Premium fuel only.

The first Buick I ever drove was my aunt's 69 4 door Special with a 350 2 bbl. It would smoke the tires without even trying. The same was true for a 72 Skylark sedan I once considered buying. I hadn't planned to give it a hard time on the test drive but the seller told me to plant my foot down hard, which of course I then had to do. The non-posi 350 2 bbl left at least 40 feet of rubber on the road.

Personally I too prefer the 70-72 styling but I've never found the right one and probably never will.

That would be a great powerplant in a base Skylark 2 door sedan.

The problem with the Buick V8's was that weak bottom end. So many of the Buick V8's of that era died an early death due to oiling issues.

Did Buick ever solve that problem?

Supposedly the Stage 1's had enlarged oiling passages and maybe they did that in later years on all of them. I worked very briefly at the Pontiac dealership right of high school (6 months) and I remember seeing a ventilated 350 block from a LeSabre. You could actually see daylight out the other side when you looked into the block. To quote the Second City TV gang, "that one blowed up real good"....

You can now get fully grooved main bearings that seem to help with the bottom end issues. A high volume oil pump helps too from what I've read.
