April 2021 Feature Car

David St.Pierre is the owner of this months feature car. You may recall David also owns a beautiful 1959 Pontiac Parisienne we featured back in 2018. David has a knack for finding nice old Pontiac's and this 1956 Pathfinder Deluxe is no exception. These were the cars that filled Canadian roads back in the day. David tells us more:

"Sold new in Trois-Pistoles, Quebec in June 1956, this car has lived all its life within 30 km from where it was sold. I am the 3rd owner and it has 55 thousand original miles.

I did not really want to buy another car but I knew of this car since I was a kid. Back in the 1980s I used to see this one all the time, dreaming I could own a 1950s car some day.

So when I heard that the old man might want to sell last year I just had to have it.

It was a bit rougher than expected underneath though and I had the floors and rocker panels repaired. The rest of the car was really solid and the original V8 265 c.i. ran strong with just a bit of work. It is also an automatic car with a good working original Powerglide.

Only thing that would remain to do are the seats that suffered from a mice invasion sometime in the past. I just covered them with blankets for now.

Otherwise this is a very reliable and surprisingly fast and agile little driver old car."

No question David, you have the skill for finding the nice old ones and this car is no different. I rode home from school in a '56 Laurentian, two tone white with lighter blue, it was my Grandfather's so seeing this is a real trip down memory lane. That's a car any of us would be proud to own

Good lookin' car, and even though the floors and rockers weren't as good as you thought, I'm sure they are were in much better shape than most other cars of that era in your area.

I can't remember, being a 56 265, does it have an oil filter on the back corner of the block? The 55 265's had an external accessory oil filter.

I believe 56 was the first year for the integral oil filter.

She's a beauty! My kind of old car, ordinary and underappreciated for years but now kind of special.

Wow.

65 years old, less than a thousand miles a year.

And a V8 car. What percentage of those would have been V8's? 10% maybe? What a great find.

Beautiful car! Looks so comfy! The two-tone matches the model perfectly. Enjoy it for a long time!

Congrats. Your 56 is the real deal. A true survivor. You must get a ton of thumbs up.

I also love the fact that this car demonstartes the real paint colour of the tri five small blocks in Canadian Pontiacs. I got my pair of Pontriac script valve covers from David and made them an Early COVID 19 stay at home project. Remember ?  CLICK HERE

A true classic! Beauty car. This is what most had parked in their front yard!! I can remember when the "R" was down there!

Very nice car and well preserved time capsule. I bet the V8 option provided some serious local swagger back in the day with the 265!

Nice car!

Very nice original 1956. So many small changes from a 55. The 1956 265 with a powerglide is rated at 170 hp and uses a special high lift camshaft where the 3 speed standard transmission with a 265 is 162hp. Very rare powertrain combination in a Pathfinder Deluxe. Congratulations on "Feature Car Of The Month". I am wondering if the car came from the factory with two tone paint or if the dealer painted the roof . Check the paint code and see if it has a S before the numbers. Radio and clock delete as both were options in both Pathfinder series.

Indeed, its a later repainted roof. Car was all turquoise out of the factory.

Beautiful original car.  This is the car that made me aware that they were still pinstriping wheels from the factory right up into the mid fifties.  Well deserving of the monthly feature car honour - congrats!.

The pinstriping on the wheels was only for the pathfinder and pathfinder deluxe series. The Laurentian series did not get pinstriped wheels as they came with a full wheel cover . I use dog dish hubcaps when driving my 55 and only put on the full wheel covers at a car show. Ever since I installed wide white radial tires the full wheel covers pop off and will not stay on the wheel
