Sounds too good to be true, doesn't it.
Contacted the seller and the story seemed fishy.
Car is willed to him and he is selling it.
The add only features the 2017 appraisal with no pictures new pictures of the car.
So I decided to do some digging.
After all, when do you ever come across 9,600 Mile 1969 Pontiac !
On the Appraisal is not only the name of the owner at the time but also his phone number.
I had to call him up and get the car's story from Bill, the original owner.
Bill was a great guy to talk to. a true car loving guy with one exception.
Bill had a long line of cars in the 60s.
He bought a new 1968 Beaumont 396 four speed that met it's end in 1969.
He went to the GM dealer in Orillia and ordered a new 4 speed Chevelle.
The dealer called him up after and told him that GM was on strike and the Chevelle was to be delayed.
Bill needed something to drive.
The salesman talked him into a car that was on the lot in Pickering.
Without seeing the car, Bill agreed to buy the car.
Bill took delivery in time for his planned Niagara vacation with his wife.
The couple headed off for a week.
So an A-Body, big block 4-Speed guy got talked into a B-Body small block automatic car.
(What a Salesman !)
Of course he hated it !!!
When his vacation was over, he took the car back to the dealer.
The Chevelle that he ordered was there.
The dealer would not give him his money back or even a discount on the Chevelle.
Bill was very upset.
Not repeating what he said but 52 years later he is still upset.
Bill owns warehouses and that's where he stashed the car away and forgot about it.
In the 80s he decided to freshen it up a bit with aftermarket rims but in the end he still hated the car.
Back into the warehouse it went.
2016 came and the warehouse that the car was in, was sold.
Bill put the car up for sale, it was bought and off to Toronto.
Yep, true 9,600 mile car because the owner hated it so much.
He would not tell me how much he sold it for.
I thanked Bill a promised to call him back if I bought this car.
After this call, I went to the Service, Ontario office near me and bought the Seller's package.
Just two days before I checked the car was transferred to a lady's name.
4 years after Bill sold it. Not uncommon.
Sure enough Bill was the original owner.
I contacted the seller again and some interesting stories about the car started to be told.
I sent him a text " I know all about the car up until 2017. The question is what has happened to it since."
"Please send me current pictures of the car and we will go from there"
I get back, 'PERFECT"
So a week goes by and nothing.
Meanwhile I consult the best experts I know. Yep, all members of Canadian Poncho !
A lot of smart people here and a lot of past 1969 owners too.
Friday, I get this "I get the car in two hours, do you want to see it"
I replied, "Please send me pictures of the car and we will go from there"
Then the eye candy comes through as my phone burns up with pictures.
THE CAR IS REAL !
This is a public forum so I choose not to post the pictures without permission from the owner.
He want's $35,000 for the car. Mint, 9,600 mile car may have happened.
With my photoshop, I was able to blow up the high definition pics and it was clear that the car is not mint.
The nosecone is just like a lot of other 1969 nose cones, pieces missing.
Most of you know how hard it is to find one theses days.
There is damage to the grills so in my opinion, she bumped into something.
The appraisal shows a perfect nose.
In several areas, the paint is worn off.
I believe him when he says no rust but there is a lot of paint wear.
I blew up the pictures of the vinyl roof and sent the image off to some of our best here.
There seems to be bumps in that fabric that suggests rust.
The people who saw that agreed that these are rust prone areas.
The interior is so perfect that it should be considered a time piece.
No wear at all.
With all considered, I was ready to offer $28,500 for the car.
Others had told me, don't go over $25,000
And a true Guru told me "Don't pay a cent over $20,000 for a small block car"
What also has to be considered was something pointed out to me by the Guru.
This car was not "Stored", it was parked and forgotten. The old fluids would have not done the car well.
What worries me about the is that the seller sent it to a detailer before it was delivered to him.
All those years of dry storage and he got the car washed ?
All the metal seams would have been cracked wide open and they just poured water in them
What's this thing going to look like in 6 months ?
I set up today a Canadian Poncho Posse with the Golden Horseshoe's best.
Once we set the time, I contacted the seller about a visit Sunday afternoon.
I got the address, sent it to the guys and we started to finalize our plans.
Then I get a long rambling text in all capitals from the seller.
Basically saying $35,000 or don't come.
Don't waste my time.
I replied,
"No worries, All is good, it's your car, we will skip tomorrow"
Then a bigger rant.
Let the guys know and thanked them.
Then I blocked the number.
and here we are.
A great story from a unwilling Canadian Poncho owner.
A truly amazing example of a 69, 2+2 but showing signs of age.
A seller that may or may not get his price.
And me writing a long winded story.
Too bad, you guys would have loved the fact that my shop would have become all Pontiac
Too bad the car reminded me so much of my 69 Grande from the 80s
The Convertible just may have been sold to pay for this.

Sorry to hear you couldn't make a deal. He'll never get his price. About 25 years ago I looked at a 25000 mile 69 Strato Chief. It was so rusty under the vinyl top I'm sure most of the roof panel would have come off with the vinyl top. Mileage means nothing if the car isn't cared for properly.
What year was the Pontiac offered for sale at the west coast about 2 years ago that was almost brand new? I think the owner's name was John and he was a realtor. He was in the 30-35 thousand dollar range if I remember right and that car looked gorgeous in the pictures. Just a comparison.

Yes, John's car was a black 66 Parisienne 2 door hardtop, 283 Powerglide in unbelievable original condition and I believe he was asking about $32,000. Comparing the pictures of the two cars shows 2 completely different conditions.

I saw a youtube recently that shows that car in New Zealand now for a bizarre price (although I'm not familiar with the exchange rate there)
Bummer.....................someone repainted the engine and exhaust manifolds. The originality is lost forever.
Yeah what an idiot. New style of factory over spray. Looks like a 10 year old kid did it. When that car was for sale I thought it was one of the best deals out there for you B body lovers. I sure liked it.
'64 Parisienne CS "barn find" - last on the road in '86 ... Owner Protection Plan booklet, original paint, original near-mint aqua interior, original aqua GM floor mats, original 283, factory posi, and original rust.
Is the car in question an L65 or L48? It had dual exhausts which are not original to either unless it has N10 option. I'd be inclined to think N10 would be more likely to be ordered with the 300 HP.

Almost 800 hits on the new ad in less than 24 hours.
Someone will buy it.
It's going to take someone with a fat wallet. I'm not as confident as you are that there's a buyer out there with 35K for that car. Nothing is impossible though, it only takes one guy who had the twin to it new, or something like that.
