72 GTO value?

I have a request that might seem strange until I explain.

I would like help in establishing the value of a 1972 GTO. I'm not buying it, and it's not for sale. It belonged to a friend and he passed away a little over a year ago. His kids do not have any extra insurance on the car and I explained to them they should buy some added coverage because our basic insurance in Manitoba wouldn't do much for them in case of a loss.

It's an original owner car and I'm somewhat familiar with the history on it. If anybody here follows these cars and could help me with an idea of value would you mind sending me a private message if you're willing to help?

I know I can use the online appraisal sites but sometimes real world experience is even better.Thanks.

LOL, I was out walking this morning and thinking "what a useless forum this is, no replies on this"..........................JUST KIDDING!!!

I guess I'll rely on some online stuff. I would like to find auction sites with sales results but so far no luck with that.

In fairness to the community Carl, your post actually asked people to contact you directly not post here.

What's the condition could be $3,500 could be $40,000.

I have thought of suggesting that to them. I'm also told Haggerty doesn't require an appraisal? If so, maybe I can help them with a somewhat realistic value, in the ballpark at least, and they could just buy Haggerty.

Did you check the value's on Hagerty? They seem to be pretty accurate as they get their numbers from auction results etc.

No, I didn't realize they had values on their site. I'll check there, thanks!

I actually got those values from Hagerty, I just didn't whip them out from thin air.

Generally, insurers specializing in our type of toys will write "declared value" insurance, up to their tolerance limit for any given make/model/year. The premium is based on the insured value, so there's a natural incentive not to rate it too high, unless you plan to torch it and pocket the declared value, and fairly quickly!

They should get a written appraisal from a legitimate professional, then let Hagerty or whomever write a policy for that amount (assuming it's not beyond their comfort zone). Unless it's minty and loaded, it's unlikely you'd get it written for much north of $50,000 USD, it would seem to me.
