Canadian chrome plater?

I have recently looked into reproduction tail lamp chromes for my car (1970 Firebird), and came across deficiencies of the currently offered reproductions.

These are some first hand comments on the OER reproductions from another forum that I frequent:

They claim to be triple chrome plated and seemed to be as heavy as the originals, but the casting quality on the back side was not as nice as you might expect. The chrome finish was probably a 9 out of 10. There was one big problem though in that the holes for the studs were metric instead of SAE. You have to remove the studs from the old bezels and reuse them, so this presented a problem. It was possible to re-tap the holes to the proper size, but it seems like a big oversight and they will hear about it.

Thought I'd purchase a pair to see how good they were. If they started out correct, they ruined them before they were chromed (see pics comparing original to theirs). Apparently all of their stock is currently this way. They've been contacted regarding the matter -- we'll see if they do anything about it. Should be an easy correction. Don't buy any, if you were planning to -- at least not in the near future.

(the pictures not seen here show the metal contour was changed at the insides near the reverse lenses, and the mounting stud bosses were changed)

I used a pair. They fit great, no issues with hardware fitting. My only complaint was I got pits in the chrome after 3 years or so. The parts have never seen rain/salt and the car is garage kept.

I am now wondering if there are any good chrome platers in Canada.

I have several sets of these chromed parts, so if one or two get boogered up, it's no big deal;
I believe that these are cast pot metal - I mention this because I know that it WILL be a factor for the plater.

There used to be a really good chrome plater here (Alberta Plating), but if my memory serves me somewhere in the last twenty years the company sold(??) and from word of mouth, all that company has been good for since then is overcharging on thin plating;
I have heard multiple stories of upset customers sending freshly plated stuff from AP to another plater outside of Alberta.
To add to that, I have heard many other people opting to send their stuff out of province (and out of country) to get quality plating done.
I used to hear more about this when I was involved in local clubs, one which would have displays at the World of Wheels.

I don't mind spending more than the cost of a repop to get an original done, assuming the work is good quality.

It would be nice to find a Canadian company to work with... I'd appreciate any thoughts that any of you have to share.

At the recommendation of a buddy of mine, I used Victoria Plating in Victoria BC about a dozen years ago and was happy with the results. My buddy has high end early 50's Buick cars, which obviously have a lot more chrome than our 1970's cars. He used Victoria Plating extensively, and was always very happy with their work.

I went today to metal coaters in Mississauga , ON. Dahn the owner is really nice. Roughly $1000 per bumper but no longer does any pot metal work. He referred me to the plating house in concord. should have an estimate next week but probably looking at 10k for the bumpers and all the trim and repair for a 64 Custom Sport Rag.

Cambridge did a good job on my pot metal pieces.

I also used the Plating House about 15 years ago for bumpers and their work was quite good too.

 Please take some pictures of before and after of your chromed trim. Thanks.
