Valve cover bolts

Just got my valve covers cleaned up ready to install on the 409.Does any one know, are the bolts and washer chrome plated like the covers or were they painted or left bare steel.?

As far as i have ever seen,  all chevy motors with factory chrome valvecovers also have factory chrome bolts and holddowns

I think it changed over to bolts around 65? Im not a 65 guy so hopefully someone else will chime in like Carl. My 63 is the newest model Ive owned in the 60s, it has Phillips and thats all Ive seen, including small block. Show-Cars lists bolts for 64-65 409 and 327.

Ya i would say that 63 is the last year for screws.  all my 64 US and Cdn cars have the bolts with the smaller 3/8 socket head.
