No surprise. I have a good data plan with my cell provider. I use the AUX jack on my work HHR and stream all the music and podcasts I could ever want through my cellphone using Spotify (which is free). There are some good automotive podcasts like "Mecum on the Move" and "Bring a Trailer" which have new episodes weekly.

The whole auto industry has been deleting CD players for a while now. Our 'new' car (not a GM) has a CD player but is the last model year in its generation - the new ones don't have them.

I still prefer them for home use, but prefer to use a stick or mp3 player in the car, so you don't have to constantly change CDs while driving.  Two of our cars have 6-disc CD changers in them though, and the other two have singles (wife is the CD changer in those... lol).

There are only a few CD stores left, though you can still get them at places like Amazon.  The rest of the world has moved on to streaming - so you don't 'own' music anymore, you have to accept what is available for streaming.  This is a little problematic for me as I like a lot of music that has been out of style for a long time, plus I tend to like the less-common tracks on albums as opposed to the songs they killed on the radio.  I don't like the industry taking control of what I listen to, so I'll hang on to my CDs till my dying days... plus they have better sound quality IMHO.

Wow it seems like just yesterday I was excitedly plopping down $27.00 or so for my first CD's (Actually it was 1983.) I guess they had a good run as far as tech goes these days. (40 years or so) but I agree with MC in that I prefer to actually own my music instead of renting it a song at a time. Owing albums, whether lps or cds  has led me to check out many cross connection between musicians and has resulted in a lot of great discoveries, musically.

The 6000 or so albums I have do kind of clutter up the house but they re like old friends I can revisit whenever i want or mix and match however it want.

I just seems to me that the cooperate bodies have finally achieved what they have wanted all along. They will choose what we hear, if we let them. For me,  it is depressing to actually listen for any length of time to the dreck that is out there.  We are living in in a musical dark age right now with a massive lack of creativity and a corresponding massive amount of marketing.

The indy stuff is really the only place to go these days.

I agree, I like owning my music, the sound on vinyl is unique, I still have a bunch I pull out once in a while. My 2002 Tacoma has a CD player and a cassette player, around the last year for cassette.

JUST found a CD the first owner left in the car I bought for my wife, 9 1/2 years ago! Between satellite radio, and streaming, physical media are an endangered species. I had the original Delco in the Beaumont converted to Bluetooth and AM/FM, and don't expect the latter to get much work.

I agree with so much of this post, it's almost like it was typed by an older carbon copy of myself.
(no offence intended)

When big bands from the 1980's are all on independant labels (think Megadeth ect) then you know that something is wrong the mainstream music industry;
They seem to be more interested in putting out proven sellers or boring stuff that lacks any distinction... or stuf that tends to sound like it has an electronic skip as the basis of the sound.

No offense taken. I just wish that older guy would watch for typos a bit more carefully!

With an extensive CD collection and a 2006 Chevy truck that only has a AM/FM  radio , I thought I should explore getting a radio with CD.

I lucked out at Pick n Pull today finding a Factory radio that fits my truck with not only a CD slot but also includes a cassette player.

Now I can also play my cassettes. Cost ? $20.00

Good score ... don't give up on your old music formats. I still have all my vinyl.

Nice!  I'd run a cleaner through it before I put my good tapes in it, though.

If you need to unlock the Theftlock system, there are how-to videos on youtube.

I hope it gives you many miles of cruising to great tunes!

Whats a CD player? Tell you what I like though, those new fangled things called 8 tracks, absolutely amazing, you can actually play your own music while driving your car!

They play really good if you manage to wedge a matchbook in the sweet spot between the tape and tape door.wink

Greaser, have that exact radio in my 2005 GMC. Great sound but my CD is stuck in it, haven't dug it out yet. Luckily it's one I really like of misc live recordings. Just try a tester CD on the bench. Still like my CD's
