In defense of the claim to the First electric Muscle car, 

A muscle car is not just about speed and horsepower. I think a Mercedes 6.9 would have blown away most GTO or Cheevlle SS cars back in the day but certainly never considered to be a muscle car nor wanted to be. I'd put anything Tesla in that same category, furthest thing from a muscle car I can think of. 

Its a whole demeanour, attitude and the way you strut your stuff that creates a muscle car, that's the whole point of the ad.  Honestly, nobody can use the power that these cars are producing safely on our highways so in the end its all about image and Dodge has it.

I'm not surprised. They've been thinking outside the box for years now and this will be just another "WOW" moment in their muscle car line-up. Nobody puts as much H/P on the street as Mopar today. MOPAR- My Own Personal Adrenaline Rush. Enough said.......

 Well stated, and I cant argue any of this or the other responses. (However, i find that chart comical as Im not sure what the other two colours are to represent... GM and Ford sales?)

There was a new Kia in the paper in the last week, all electric, looked like a box, 4 door, and top line had 500 hp and AWD. Muscle car? Based on 0-60 times, these electrics are really quick, but they are not muscle cars. As was said, you cant use all this power on the road. A modern vehicle that is not used for towing and doesnt weigh over 4500 lbs, doesnt need more than about 300 modern hp. The 450+ hp stuff is just bragging rights. Amazing though.

What ever happened to that big hp late 60s insurance problem? Wonder what insurance for a self driving 1000 hp Tesla will be?

Gotta remember, electric motors generate peak torque at 0 rpm. Passing times, once the motors are spooled up, aren't the forte of an electric car. Notice how your electric wheel chair snaps your neck back from a standstill, but once it's rolling, the acceleration is pretty leisurely?

Teslas, especially the Model S, have terrific aerodynamics (aided by not having to channel air into the forward compartment to cool the radiator), and can compete with higher-performance ICEs on highways, but these are TOTALLY different animals from what we're used to.

Some cant even handle that that power in their own drive way.

imagine all these electric cars in the hands of some newer drivers.
