I had a customer today who owns one and I was asking him about it. Retired VA guy in his 60's. Says he loves the car and hasn't had any problems. It was a 2017. His daughter had a Nissan Leaf and hated it. The batteries aren't liquid cooled on the Leaf and apparently they don't charge worth a damn in hot weather and the range decreases as well. She dumped the Leaf and bought a Bolt and loves it too. He said his son drives the car to work in Charlottetown quite often and can charge at work. Apparently "work" has a level 2 charger and it's a free "employee perk". Geez I wish my jobs had gas pumps that I could have used to top up my car each day before going home!
I've seen "ICE" vehicles burn quite a bit being in the auto service business for 30 years. My most memorable was a 3800 powered Grand Prix that a co worker owned. He came back from lunch, parked the car and 10 minutes later it was on fire in the GM dealership parking lot we worked at. It had that oil leak recall that had just come out and he hadn't had the fix yet. I also remember in my early days working at a GM dealer and calling customers who had outstanding recalls. I called a lady to inform her of a recall on her Fiero. Before I could tell her what it pertained to (engine fires) she said "Oh that car burnt to the ground a month ago". Ah well..
Like I said before I wouldn't park any car in a garage attached to my house.

Yup, petrol-powered vehicles still have electronics that catch fire... not to mention that they are carrying around an incendiary bomb that is the fuel tank.  EVs are new and unknown to most of us, and therefore it makes us nervous of all the things that could go wrong.  Meanwhile, we've managed to accept the risks of the tried-and-true.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/fire-vehicle-recall-transport-canada-1.5075790

Transport Canada has dispatched a team of investigators to Windsor, N.S., in an attempt to identify the cause of a fire Thursday that destroyed a home and two vehicles.

The decision comes after Windsor fire Chief Jamie Juteau told CBC News there were witnesses and 911 callers who reported that a vehicle fire had spread to a home. Juteau identified the vehicle as a 2018 Hyundai Elantra.
