The Chevelle if it truly was a 1965 396 was a limited run car. 201 Z16 cars were made. They are not cheap.
But I don't think any 396 was in any A Body otherwise in 1965.
Any pic's??? All Z-16's had the big bolt 5x5 bolt pattern wheels. All were 4 speeds w/160 mph speedo and a dash mounted clock and built on a convertible frame. What color was it? Should've had a Malibu SS 396 emblem on the trunk. 201 were built with 1 ragtop-Triple black. I could go on and on. Just really curious that's all. Oh and if you get the chance to look at the stamp pad it should read "IX" after the date code.

Man, is there a ton of knowledge in this group or what?!!
I just saw a 1965 Chevelle at a local car meet (originally equipped with a 396 4 speed).
I am just re-reading this and now I am curious to know what engine is in the car now? It sounds to me after revisiting this that the "original" 396 is gone.
It still had the 396 in it, and all the badge. Was imaculate red with black vynal roof, power windows I think. I will try to find some pictures. The owner said he had to pay a lot to get the previous owner to sell it to him.
Yes almost exactly like that one but I think it had a black interior. Badging the same with the crossed flags and tack stood up like that and said SS 396 on back right rear area. Did not have the original wheel covers on it though.

This is the car on the cover of the CCCB magazine sept/oct 2017. The car belonged to Chris and Peg Whittaker, but has since been sold.
I'll say, that owner must have an I don't care bank account to bring that car out to a local cruise in my opinion. It's gotta be worth $150,000 to $200,000. Did he drive it or trailer it?

Walking around money, Ray. They were built to drive - what's the point of owning one if you don't drive it?
There is a 65 chevelle in Timmins that has the 160 mph speedometer. The car has a 327 325 hp 4 speed. It is red with the same hub caps and yellow stripe tires as the one shown above. I was parked next to it a car show last Sunday. The owner who owns a Toyota dealership has always had some beautiful rare cars including a 1969 copo camaro , 1970 chevelle SS 454 450 hp and numerous other GM muscle cars. He has owned this chevelle a couple of times over the last 25 years. This chevelle was originally a 396 equipped car but the engine was lost over the years.
I did not know about the 5 on 5 wheel bolt pattern but will check the next time I see it and will check the frame and and IX code.. It has the stand up clock.
I stand to be corrected but the earliest Canadian built 396 installation I have run across is is my 66 Grande that has a build date of October 1965 with a block casting date of July 65 if my memory serves.

Apparently there is one north of Calgary by Crossfield. I have yet to see one up close. I'd probably wet my pants.........not kidding.

Im not sure about the 5X5 bolt pattern on the wheels. I remember reading that the Z16 used 11 inch brakes from the full size Chevrolet with sintered iron brake shoes and 15 Corvette plain steel wheels.
I stand to be corrected but Im pretty sure all the Z16 Chevelles were built in the states. Never cared for the wheel covers. Sams as 66 chevelle super sport?
