Still trying to find a way to ship doors from Sask to PEI

I thought I found a set of rust free doors for my truck in PEI. In fact the "seller" offered them up to me a week ago. I was getting parts from a local parts store and asked for a quote for a door skin. Anyway, we arranged for me to pick them up today. While on my way to get them he texts me saying "My Old Man wants me to keep them" hmm

So, Vincent has a nice pair of doors for my truck. No luck yet getting any shipper to bother to get them. Day & Ross sent me a nice reply when asking for a quote; "We're not a moving company". WTF?

If anyone can help me out to get these doors to PEI fairly soon I'd appreciate it. The truck needs to be finished by the end of Sept.

Thanks

Todd,

Maybe these people can help...or know who could help you.

Another possibility are machinery movers who ship across the country or  CPR or CN rail.

If you attach them to a pallet and they will just mark them as top of the pile you should be able to find a shipper. I sent a hood out last fall to Charlottetown that way. Trying to remember the cost, a little over $200 I think. I could check. I went with a local shipper and it went to Manitoba or something and then finished it's route with another company.

Ive had good results with Ghost Transport shipping big crates from Saskatoon to the east coast.

Sameday/Day and Ross will ship them depot to depot and they will give you a 48 hour locked in quote if you give them size and weight. This has worked well for me in the past working with howmac in Winnipeg. But it works only because Howard can drop the parts off and I can pick them up. Vincent may not be close enough to a depot for that to work.

I think they stopped deliveries since Covid started.

Ghost transport obviously works well too as Ken has shipped me some big stuff in crates from Saskatchewan. He crated it masterfully and there was no damage whatsoever. I don't know if that would be required for doors but is is certainly recommended. I have an NOS fender that  I bought and shipped, in a box, not a crate, and it is pretty much scrap metal now.

I had good luck with Day/Ross on a C10 fender from Sask to Wpg. I had to pick it up at the depot but the price was reasonable.

Yes their prices are very reasonable especially for big items.

The wrecker where I purchased the fender said the trick was to package them properly and they stressed that their shipper was an expert at packaging.  I beg to differ that claim but it got here in one piece.

But I do believe that packaging is very important so that they endure the ride.  My fender was in a humongous box and you could see where holes had been poked in but thankfully no damage.  Strapped to a pallet with lots of foam to take impact, mark with fragile, DO NOT LOAD ON TOP, drop off at the depot and hope for the best!

I'll contact Ghost. As I mentioned in my original post Day and Ross wouldn't touch it. I used Vincent's business name and my business name. I did specify no loading dock so maybe that was the issue.

try putting an ad on uship i have had really good luck getting parts shipped. lots of guys are hauling cars across the country and usually the back of their truck is empty so they will throw the parts in the back and usually do not charge that much because they r already getting paid for the car they r hauling trick is to find someone coming from the west towards you the ad doesn't cost anything and u can explain exactly what you need in the ad i've had 3 cars and lots of parts all shipped through uship from both sides of the country and always had good results

Are the doors complete (glass, mechanicals, panels)?

I've used Day and Ross to ship a JL-8 12 bolt rear end clone to Ontario. Of course I made a wooden style coffin for it but they shipped it for me. Wasn't that overly expensive either.

Maybe they thought you wanted them to crate the doors for you before shipping?

I say this because I'm surprised by their response, as back in my working days we shipped many auto parts (even entire car bodies) to various places in the world and many times used Day and Ross to do at least part of the transport.  But we always crated or palletized the parts ourselves.

I think for all the hassle I'll just put a lower skin on the passenger door. My drivers door isn't bad at all.

Got a line on a pair of good doors in New Brunswick for 50 bucks. Seller is currently working in Baffin Island so I have to wait until the weekend when he is back. Fingers crossed!

My boss is in NB weekly so he's offered to pick them up if he can coordinate with the seller.
