Things can still change... I'm still waiting for my flying car that we were supposed to have by now.

LOL... you're right!  Now I'm waiting for my electric, self-driving, flying car... biggrin

Though I am partial to the 1980s flux capacitor fusion/electric powered time machine flying car.  I'd buy one, go back to 1969 and put it in a barn under a tarp because I wouldn't need it anymore... smile

I think Tesla quality is an issue, based on Consumer Reports ranking them 2nd last out of 26 manufacturers, Lincoln was 26. Their ratings are based on subscribers who are owners. The quality is bad and the warranty is interpreted in favour of Tesla. On the other hand, no different than many other manufacturers?

That's been an issue since their first Model S production.  Tesla doesn't have the robust processes that the mainstream automakers have, but their customers give them more of a "bye", than we would with an F150 or Camry, because of the virtue signaling aspect.  After all, how can you complain about not being able to get to work, or the Jays game, when you're Saving the Planet?  GM's recent Bolt drama aside, I don't expect we'll see the sort of reliability and durability issues from the big global producers, as Tesla has inflicted on their customers.

The next five years are going to be a tumultuous, and entertaining, ride!

This will all play out by market pressure.  Once Tesla has competition from the mainstream automakers, they will either have to step up their game or they will go down.  Plus they won't be able to profit from selling their emissions credits anymore (if they are still doing that).

Exactly. And Musk's habit of running off anyone who knows anything doesn't enhance their chances of surviving, as presently constituted.

Its the fanboys and girls boasting ownership. Working out the beta version kinks before the mainstream audience arrives. If they ever do.
While the big 3 types learn from their mistakes. In the long term Tesla will be the same as they are presently. Theyve only updated the technology in their various models. How old is the model S ?
Does a current version look any different then an older one ?
Read somewhere that Ford wants to go an order basis in the future instead of stocking countless iterations of their various models.
