Good Laptop for Computer Science Student

Hi.
Sorry not car relate. But our son is starting University this fall taking Computer Science and needs to get a good laptop for school. He kinda knows the specs he needs but not familiar with all the brands out there. Does anyone have kid or know of someone who is in or was recently in the program and knows what laptop is best bang for your buck. Our budget is around $1000.
Thanks.

Never had an issue with Mac products.
Always had an issue with Dell and PC products.

Not sure what his preference is. Or if he can use a Macbook or has to use PC products?. And not sure what the Specs need to be

Well this is what he told me. 16GB RAM. 256GB SSD Hard Drive. Enough CPU to run an UbuntuVM. Windows Based so not Mac. And doesnt need touchscreen. Most of that flew right past me. Lol.

Might be cheaper to find a shop that builds them and have one built to those specs.

This is a USD offer, but it would seem you can get something well within the $1,000 loonie price range that meets his specs. No idea what "Ubuntu" is, but I'm not a millennial!

Check out Memory Express. Lots of choices and great warranty

and extended warranty. And they will configure to what you want.

When I worked at the U of Calgary our shop always when to them for computers,

they held up better than the competition and they service what they sell.

My film maker son does the same, for the 4 year warranty.

Thanks everyone for their input. We ended up going with a Dell New Inspiron 14. It has all the specs he wanted and decent price compared to other brands. And we got a thumbs up from the computer tech at my work. Hopefully it works out for him.
