Viewed a tractor pull tonight. Serious HP.

Lots of action in Alberta this weekend. Drag races in Edmonton and 5 minutes from my moms were these tractor and truck pulls. Never been to one before so for you newbies like me the huge weight on the sled they pull moves ahead as they are going down the track finally stalling them out at some point. These guys are even louder than the dragsters as they stay in front of you for a lot longer. Some running 3 and 4 punched out big blocks. I think they are worth watching at least once.

The mechanics of getting all that power from multi engines to those big back tires is impressive. The transmission, drive shaft, rearend, and however they connect those engines together.

Interesting too my brother knows Wayne Vanouck who was an old time drag racer and now builds many of these engines for these pullers. He told my brother the main reason he switched over was for the life of the engines. At the end of the race you are actually stalling out whereas in a drag race you are still revving up. He said big big difference in the life of the engines. He has built and designed a V16 for pulling.
On the same note a good friend of mine out here in Alberta drag races on the central Alberta circuit. He said the best thing for him is with this circuit running an 1/8 mile track. The part that killed his car was the second 1/8 mile.
