Our feature car for September is something a little different. A little different in that this car was once owned by a member of Canadian Poncho. Murray Metcalf owned this super clean 1968 Beaumont Custom.
Murray assures us the car is in good hands and tells us more:
I purchased my 68 Beaumont Custom on August 09, 2001 from the 4th owner. I ordered the documents from Vintage Vehicle Services of GM of Canada. The car was built in April 1968 and shipped to Roy Foss Motors in Thornhill Ontario. It was one of 3,477 V8 Custom 2 Dr Hdtp's built. It was a well optioned car with 13 options with the 307 engine being the base V8. It actually looks like the car in the dealer brochure.
The 307 ran well but was tired and started using oil. So in 2005 I decided to replace the engine with a 350 Goodwrench crate engine. I think the engine is very close to the power output of the optional L73 327 250hp engine which was available that year. The engine has a correct 68 intake manifold, air cleaner, and rocker covers. It still has a functional carb preheater stove and tube assembly.
The Powerglide transmission and rear axle assembly are original ,with the axle ratio being 3.08. The vinyl top was starting to look tired so in the fall of 2008 the top was removed which uncovered more typical rust, and also showed previous repairs with fibreglass. I decided to have a proper repair done and it turned out well with the base of the windshield restored properly with metal.
A set of 15 x7 Rally wheels with the correct center caps was installed along with BFG P225/70r15 T/A radials .
The Beaumont has always been a reliable running car with numerous trips to car shows including two trips to Bothwell in 2006 and 2007. It still has the OEM points and condensor setup!
The paint on the car is the Verdoro green was repainted sometime in the 1990's .
So, after almost 20years of owning the car in July 2004 I decided to sell it to a friend of mine who was also a previous 68 Beaumont owner.
Beautiful car, love the Verdoro Green on Gold interior, the coupe version of my previous same color combo
Convertible Olive. Congrats on the monthly feature!
Incredibly nice 1968 Beaumont to grace the cover photo position! Something very special about a car retaining so much of its born with appeal. Who ever checked off the order boxes back in 1968 did a great job. Hats off to the long ownership and preserving this gorgeous car!
