Tire repairs without a tire machine.

Sadly I don't have a shop, just a double garage and a back bay with the hoist in it. So this little manual tire machine that is removable really appeals.

When I was a teen working in the garage all we had was a bubble balancer and as you say, they do a pretty good job. I'm tempted to try one because same as in the case of the tire machine, the balancer is cheap enough that I'm not out a lot if it's not good enough.

Makes sense, Carl.  I get the impression that you would enjoy the challenge as much as getting the result you are looking for!

You called that one pretty much perfectly.

I find I like the challenges even more now in retirement than before.

Which leads to the next question. Balancing. Does anyone use one of those $100 bubble balancers?

All the time, still using my Dad's that he bought new in about 1976..... the secret is splitting up the weights, but no ball busting here, I have an 80's vintage Coats 40-40...

Those Coats units served the purpose for years and years in just about every repair shop it seemed.

Yes they were bulletproof, but I have seen some damaged aluminum wheels from people being careless, or just not knowing how to use the machine properly.
