Mounting emblems without the nuts.

Gang,

I'm looking to mount the 3 fender starbursts on my 65, but cannot get in behind to the 2 nuts per emblem.

I know I could use 3M double sided mounting tape and probably will, but is there something that one could put in the fender holes, and have the emblem pins push through and lock into?

Yes, Thanks Eric. Those are what I'm thinking of.

Now I'll look and see if I can find some for a 3/16" pin.

weren't barrel clips used in many instances even on the assembly line?

Using my car as an example, I believe that proper nuts were always used on the fender emblems, but the "P-O-N-T-I-A-C" letters on the tail panel used barrel clips - the only nerve wracking part of using barrel clips, is not knowing if they may chip the paint upon installation.

I suspect you'd need to enlarge the existing holes to add the barrel clips.

I measured the holes to be 3/16" and the pins the same. I wouldn't have any issue opening them up a wee bit.

Looks like these plugs are pretty much a USA only thing. Ebay or fastener supply houses down there.

Ebay, 7/32 hole, 3/16 stud Barrel clip,

20 would cost me $28 USD. Plus whatever other charges. So over $34 CDN plus. Hmm.

3M double sided 1/2" trim tape, $16 Cdn Amazon.

3M Automotive acrylic mounting tape $22

Would I pay 35 bucks to mount 3 emblems...maybe.

Wouldn't an auto body supply shop in Canada be able to get some barrel clips for you?  I'd try Carquest or whoever is close by and forget about shipping costs.

Mark there is a clip/fastener guy comes to swap meets regularly. I think he is in the Hamilton area. He may be vending Sunday and if you are not going send me a pm with the sizes and amounts you need and if he is there I will buy them for you and then we can arrange something for delivery.

Page C94 from the digital Spaenaur cat.

Looks like B-1380 (red) would be the most appropriate. 1/8 stud diameter = .1875". Panel thickness of .020-.032 seems appropriate.

if nothing else pans out (and my math is correct about you needing twelve) I can see what used ones I have.

Thanks Johnathan. Appreciate that!

Only 6 required. The passenger side ones are bolted on.
