1968 Pontiac Strato Chief Safari 427 Car. Madoc, Ontario

1968 pontiac strato chief safari wagon factory 427 car 427 was gone and in place of it was a Olds 455 which turns over car comes with second set of door and tailgate good cluster and dash pad car has bucket seats factory ones were gone and 65 pontiac Buckets in there place car need rockers and floors with some minor frame work I'm asking 1800 obo

Lots of cool factor there.  I wonder how many Strato Chief Safaris were equipped with 427s?  I would expect to see a top of the line equipped as such, but not so much for a Strato.  Would it have such a thing as a towing package on it?  Did they have towing packages in 1968?

If this is a real 427 car it deserves to be restored. I seriously considered it for about 30 seconds then realized my pockets aren't deep enough to give a car like this the resto it deserves. It is a bonus that it comes with extra doors and a tailgate.

 Agreed, and it will take a special person to do it.  Somebody who has deep pockets and/or a large shop and mucho skills to do it right, and an intense love for both Canadian Pontiacs and wagons.  I hope it finds such an owner.

If it was a real 427 car, it would either have been a salesmens car, or started life as a police car. GM docs would be interesting!

That ad has a contact number so it'd be best for someone serious to call the guy to find out. Most average car guys had no idea a 427 was optional in these cars so my hunch is it's a true 427 car

If I ever had the means to drop large on bringing back a BB CP wagon, it would have to be the top line model. Say, the Grande Safari. The Strat is just too austere for my liking.

The needle in the haystack would be finding a '68 427 that someone doesn't want your first born for. Just saying.........or if you just might have one laying in the corner of the shop.

 Nice save!  I think it's special, regardless of options or drivetrain, just in being a Grande wagon. I imagine the production was really low for those. 

Great car to restore, for sure. :)

 I agree with that.  Sure, put a numbers correct 427 in if you can get one, but really any big block that looks correct for the year would be acceptable in my view.  I think the hobby went astray when we started worrying so much about numbers this or numbers that.  As much as I love untouched original cars, if you are rebuilding something I don't think the work suffers if the numbers stamped into the block don't line up with everything else... after all it's not like you are going to haul the heads off at a car show to show everybody that the bore and stroke are correct for a 427... biggrin
