Not bad cars. Pre-Northstar which could be a good thing. Gotta watch the electronics on these cars though. According to Wikipedia here's what was new for Allante in '89:
In 1989, the base price rose to $57,183. Allanté's engine, the new 273ci (4.5L) V8, produced 200 hp (149 kW; 203 PS), and with 270 lb⋅ft (366 N⋅m) of torque. Unlocking the trunk also unlocked the side doors if the key was rotated twice – similar to Mercedes-Benz and BMW. As a theft-deterrent, Allanté added GM's Pass Key (Personal Automotive Security System), utilizing a resistor pellet within the ignition key that can render the fuel system and starter inoperative if an incorrect ignition key is used. Allanté also received a new speed-sensitive damper system called Speed Dependent Damping Control, or SD²C. This system firmed up the suspension at 25 mph (40 km/h) and again at 60 mph (97 km/h). The firmest setting was also used when starting from a standstill until 5 mph (8.0 km/h). Another change was a variable-assist steering system.
What engine is in the 89? Also a Cadillac I assume?

In '89 it was the Cad 4.5 V8. A basic throttle body V8 that was pretty reliable and easy for the DIY'er to work on. No starter under the intake like the Northstar and no headbolts to worry about.
Sure, the Northstar was more powerful and more high tech but the Allante is a cruiser, not a race car. My 2 pennies.
The 4.5 is decent and decent power, just not the world class premium engine a Northstar is. You could run the car for sale into the ground for the asking price, it just wont be collectible.
My Northstar experince in logging 1,025,000 km and still counting is one starter and no head bolts ever. The starter location is rather eloquent, very easy repair, lift off intake and there it is, no fuss, no mess. Cadillac sure isn't the only premium engine manufacturere to put it there. It is well protected from road grime ,water, salt and snow. As I recall the starter went in my 98 D'Elgance at 175,000 km when the car was 9 years old. The other ones I know are my old DTS still going at 200,000 km and our Lucerne CXS at 90,000 km.
Oh and I will add having 420 HP on hand in my everyday E class sedan adds to the pure luxury driving expereince, effortless smooth power at any speed or situation enhances the entire driving expereince. Do you think for a moment this car is "raced" ? It is said that the true mark of a man with Power is knowing when to use it ? That wasn't said about a car but does hold true.
I'll take an Allante with 300 HP over one with 200 every time.
