Appliances all died within the same year. Go figure.

Pretty good I'd say seeing the Fridge, stove and Microwave were 21 years old, all bought at the same time when we redid the Kitchen in 2000.

The GE side-by-side fridge gave up the ghost last December after a slow loss of cooling, the Kitchen Aid slide in stove, while still working kind of (touch panel was wonky), suffered a broken door glass last Thanksgiving. Two days later while heating up some turkey, the above stove Goldstar microwave went BANG and died.

We pulled out the bills for all these appliences and were surprised at the prices. You might think appliances are pricier today, they're actually cheaper relative to the year we bought the old ones. But I don't expect them to last half as long.

So today we got the stove, a nice looking and fancy LG,  the paired microwave is still out there somewhere in a container it's said.

So I slid the stove in, and of course it now leaves a gap in the counter sides and back, unlike the old one that had a flange up and over the edge. Too big to just fill with silicone.

As a fix, I bought some 1/2" aluminum angle from HD (similar looking shade to the stove). I'll fit it across the gaps, cutting and folding the forward edges down and around the front, and silicone it in place. Should look pretty good...at least when it's new.

Mine didn't, she just did fresh chicken wings in the new thing. It has an Air Frier feature, and it really works well. Wow, we're impressed!

Who would ever get excited about a stove.

I have a cook, a great cook.

I have a secretary who makes all my appointments.

I have an excellent hairdresser.

I have a perfectionist accountant.

And I sleep with all of them. I've got it made.

But I digress, sorry for the derail Mark.

I hope your LG stove does better than our LG fridge that cost us almost $300 for a repair when it wasn't even 3 years old. Funny thing is, when you read the reviews for appliances, LG is the one to buy for fridges and stoves, other than the model of fridge we bought. When I asked the repairman what fridge he had at home he said LG. Good enough for me.

My brother purchased a new range several years ago and it quit in three months. The warranty tech came and diagnosed it and replaced a circuit board that was fried. The service tech recommended a whole house surge protector saying that the new appliances are very susceptible to changes in voltage. He had an electrician install a surge protector and hasnt had any problems with any electronics since. It would probably be good insurance to protect your new appliances.

This is what I am suggesting. If you are handy you could probably install it yourself. You need a space for a 20 amp double breaker in the panel.

I dont have any recommendations for any specific surge protector, I just am using this one as an example from Home Depot.

A surge happened at a friend's cottage on PEI a few years ago ... fried everything!

You'd think these appliances would come from the factory with surge protection.disbelief

Could you plug a surge protector into a wall socket to take the overload ?
