I think we need a vote on this. Good idea or best left alone?

terrible.  i think they should do the next build by working backwards with the end goal being its original incarnation(or atleast a version from the 60s.)

Any other iconic Hot Rod, I would say no, but Project X has always been about the next form of hot rodding. It's whole reason for being was to try out new technology, and see how well it works.

Might not be popular, but I'd say yes, as X has always been a test bed for new driveline tech.

 X2

I think Project X has a place in history, just as print media magazines do (and probably will be relegated to history before long).  Most people remember the original incarnation (my opinion) - I can't even tell you what's been done to it in the past 40 years.  I think it should remain as a restored piece.

I still think an electrification project is cool and I'm sure there are still lots of '57 Chevys out there that need some love that would be great candidates without all the history attached to it.  Call it project E or something.

They're putting in a Pontiac motor in this ! What gets me is they are having a professional shop do the install. I would rather watch or know the average person could do this.

RE: electric

Good idea, from the point of view of this is the evolution of project X. No more blasphemous than putting fuel injection or a 700R in a 57 Chevy- or anything you use a computer to tune or run the car. If the objective of this car has always been to showcase new technology, this fits.

Gotta say it looks pretty cool - they did a nice job on it.  The electric motor looks a little lost in the engine compartment, though.

Uncle Tony aint too happy...

I suppose Tony has some good points, and I do agree with some of it. But to me X is just a nice looking testbed with a history we all know about. Nothing more. Styles come and go, stuff gets created, upgraded, redone, destroyed, thats just how it works.

They sure did a nice job on it. Problem is, that's beyond the scope of the average guy...at least right now, but that will surely change as it becomes popular. X perhaps moves the interest more in that direction, has it not always been it's intention?

RE: X

What's cheaper, the blown LSX that they removed, or the electric motor & battery?
