57 Austin A55 . Charlottetown PE

Seller wants $1500. Looks decent for the money. On Facebook Marketplace

This vehicle has been in storage for 10 years and needs a little body work and obviously some brake and engine work to get it running. It has won numerous first prizes in Antique British shows. I have a new gas tank to be installed and many extra parts including, light lenses, and Hood ornament "Flying A". This is all included in the price. Reason for selling No time to restore.

When I was growing up our neighbours had a green one with green interior. It seemed fancy compared to our Ford Prefect. If I remember correctly the Austin Cambridge was four speed on the column.

The leather seats in these old cars were really good quality leather. Is looks pretty rusted. Paul, I recall those 4 on the tree shifters, not sure what cars had them.

Interesting colour combo. Lot of older high end sports cars were like this.

A friend of mine dropped by my place yesterday and said "Guess what I bought?". Yep, he bought the Austin. It's actually not too bad at all. I checked it out this morning. He cleaned the points and got it running. Doesn't smoke but valves need adjusting.

He's running it off a gas can as the fuel tank needs the inlet pipe repaired. Tank is solid as they were placed in the trunk behind the back seat. The worst spot on the body is the drivers fender and it's not rotted through. I was surprised at how thick the steel is on these cars. I was under the impression British cars from this era had paper thin steel. It needs a clutch master cylinder (ordered). Lights (other than a headlight), signals, blower motor, wipers etc all work. The undercarriage is really nice.

The chrome is nice as well. Odometer says 12000 miles and could be original . It will be fun to see how these cars drive with "4 on the tree".

Haha... pretty cool, Todd.  I recall there used to be a number of English cars running around when I was a kid. They didn't seem to hang around long here, with rust seeming to be the major problem.

One of my uncles never got the big American car bug, and always bought small 4 cyl cars.  He told me that he had a Thames many years ago, and I personally remember a VW bug, an Anglia (Harry Potter style), and a 1978 Corolla that he eventually sold to me when I was a student.  In looking through old pics on the archives, there seems to have been a lot of English cars around here in the early to mid 1960s.  They were cheap to run and cheap to buy, so I imagine that was the draw, mostly.

What are your friend's plans for it... big block?  biggrin

haha. I think he will just get it running and safe enough to drive as is. He also has the 73 Lemans Sport Coupe that needs a rear bumper, a 67 or 68 Chevy pickup and a Porsche 912 plus a ton of cars and trucks in his field. My Honda needed an exhaust leak fixed as inspection is due (and an oil change) and he let me use his hoist. Really gotta get me a hoist!

Cool!  Yeah, a hoist makes all the difference. Wish I still had access to one.

Chev, Pontiac, ford, vauxhalls, envoys, epics, consul, forget who sold austins, hillmans, MG, Renault dauphines were sold for a while. Some of those brands may have been sold by AMC. My Uncle Arthur MacKinnon, had 2 or 3 Austins.

The British cars were the Cobalt, Neon, Civic of the day. A cheap way to get into a new car.

Looks like an Austin A70. It could be an Austin A30 or A35 but by the size I am sure its an A70.  I also like the old Prefect. I just had one shipped from Manitoba to Ontario.
