Major storm hits BC

And it's getting worse. A major RV dealer is on fire in Abbotsford, and the fire trucks can't get to it! It's burning next to some major power lines.
They are managing to keep the pump station there going, but it's running at full capacity.

Hard to imagine it all. When I see that Whatcom area like many others I wonder what will it will take even for that water to disappear. Almost have to trench in a ditch to drain some direction.

I hear hoarders have now cleared out most of the grocery stores. Things just get better.

Someone told me today that it could be one of the worst natural disasters that Canada has ever experienced. Can you imagine trying to do any repairs on the Coq now heading into winter. Not a chance.

Same here on North side of Malahat. Went to get some groceries at Local Store (Thrifty Foods) and meat isle looked pretty bare,

Lady at Deli was laughing, we get truck loads of food everyday still, People are going crazy, Buying up stuff. toilet paper going again. LOL

Maybe need to buy stocks in Toilet paper. I live very close to the Chevron Fuel Storage plant, so If I get low I can alway borrow some, LOL.

Gas stations were lonely here tonight, nobody around. And no I did not stop to fill up, already have 3/4 tank so good for a few weeks.

Going to get way worse before better. All hwy's and rail shut to Vancouver so no fuel/food/parts etc trucked from the East. Once our reserve stocks run out....who knows. Contaminated drinking water everywhere. People hoarding again. Tons of gas stations closed in Victoria for lack of fuel. Not to mention roads/fires etc.

Not the Ocean (farm land) Tons of animals have died....

Ya seen that on the news tonight, Not good. Not sure how they got it out or if it just burned out. Fire truck could not get to it due to
surrounded by water? Have some old friends living in that area that we have not heard from. Hopefully just in hiding away from water.
Hopefully things dry out for them. Have also heard supplies are being shipped through Prince Rupert and to the island. Hopefully they get Malahat
figured out soon.

Ya...I gotta head up  your way tomorrow in the am! Some guys were waiting southbound at 3 and didn't get through...so slept in their trucks! hmm Malahat is closed from 6pm-6am...

The more I see the more horrible it gets.  The farmers are going to have a hard time recovering from this.  no

Literally millions of dollars worth of RVs up in smoke, on the only piece of dry land in the area.  Strangely, only the RVs burned, it looks like the buildings are untouched by fire.

They were saying that because of the water levels (submersion), there is a lack of feed for farm animals already.

I heard that they are escorting fuel tankers to Victoria! Wouldn't be a fuel problem if people didn't create the problem...... So many people are about themselves.... Don't get me wrong..still lots of good/helping people out there. Just not to many with common sense. If you take a little= we all get a little. People just don't think! What if you hoard gas and a nurse can't get any to get to work. Then you need medical attention..but can't get any because no staff??? Think everyone gets my drift. If trucks can't get fuel to deliver groceries....guess what..shelves are bare. They may think they are winning..when their actually loosing....

The more I see, the more I am blown away.

Fresh, drinkable water is going to become a real issue for many.

Due to people spredinr rumours about fuel shortage, the BC government has limited the amount of fuel one can buy at a single transaction. LOL
30 litre of fuel, high be good for a 4 cyl, but my Tundra holds 100 litres. It's not stopping people from going to another station though. If people would be Patient
it will all be ok, BUT there is some that need to have it ALL.

Well said Rick. Unfortunately the other shortages on Vancouver island are common sense and courtesy. Helping the fire and flood victims in BC in any way we can is a lot more of a priority than a full tank of gas and a freezer full of meat that you could do without for a few days.

Its been unprecedented here in the Fraser Valley. The Army is here helping in race to repair the dyke now that water levels on each side of the valley have equalized. Supposed to get heavy rain again Tuesday so they're working around the clock. Got some other good news that the Fraser River has dropped enough for the pumping station flood gates to open as they flow 7X the volume of the pumps running at 100% capacity (which they werent designed for). Also grain trucks are also now able to reach some of the previous inaccessible farms! So crossing fingers the worst may be over?!

Some good news! Malahat is open in both ways. Was almost no gas in Sooke yesterday..but we have at least one station open! Went and bought steaks for Dougie and I so we can pig out tomorrow !!biggrin Was lucky to find them as I asked my daughter before heading out  and she said "Good Luck!". She was out shopping the day before with her mother and the shelves were bare! Hoping all settles down and we can all get back to normal soon!! Been a tough year in BC this year!!
