Has anybody made the trip from the island into the BC interior (Shuswap-Okanagan)?

Im in Victoria, looking to get home to Salmon Arm. I see HWY 99 is open to emergency travel (getting to principal residence qualifies). So that means Victoria to Nanaimo over the Malahat, ferry to Horseshoe Bay, #99 to Cache Creek then on to Kamloops & home. To complicate things, Im in my truck, and theres a 30 litre limit on fuel purchases. I filled up in Hope on the way here, so Ive already covered +/-200 Kms on this tank. Im not sure where Id be able to get fuel along the way, but I would definitely be looking at needing more than 30 litres.

The alternative is the ferry to tsawwassen, #7 to Hope, #3 to Osoyoos, then north on 97 to home. The good news is Im more familiar with this route and fuel is supposedly available unrestricted after Hope. The bad: there are still emergency use restrictions and single/two lane detours on this route, plus, itll likely be the busier route, especially through the lower mainland.

Either way, I expect it to be a very long, slow trip.

Im hoping to leave tomorrow morning, to try to beat the forecast rain/snow later in the week. Any first hand knowledge of either route would be much appreciated.

I did not bring my passport, so going through the US is probably not an option.

The fuel thing is Voluntary I do believe, my buddy just went from one station to the other to fill his truck.
Have not heard how things are on the highways yet, Good luck with your journey.

There's a new slide on Hwy 3 east of Manning Park. It's closed again.

I heard tonight that No.3 is open again. I am heading to Likely BC to take possession of my new home on Friday, and need to decide which route to take, 99 or Highway 3. I am hoping either will still be open, 99 is about an hour shorter but I am unfamiliar with it.

Thanks John re:HWY 3.
From what I found, it was closed again today but reopened to one-lane, alternating traffic. That should be good for several hours considering the only other route (99) is limited in weight so all trucks will be trying to get through on #3. With the #3 backed up, the 99 is likely to be that much busier too.
I would like to get home, but fortunately I dont have to get home. I think Ill stay put for now. Another few days in Victoria is not the worst that could happen.

Lawrence - Good luck and safe travels if you head out.

Boss was stuck in Hope staying at a relative for 5 days! He made it back yesterday. Think the Crows nest(#3) should be good if open. Doesnt take long to clear up the back log..... Can kill time and come over to visit Dougie and I... you know where I live.....

Don't think its going to be as bad as they think ...but we'll see. Panic has stopped. We now have gas at our stations and food on the store shelves. Just seems people get flustered so easy......... Dougie in town...so now a beer shortage.......what next! wink
