Winds to 160 kph and rain as much as 400 mm in higher elevations. CRAZY weather.
We had 70mm here last night and this morning wind was about 50-70 kph.

I'm in Nova Scotia now and booked to cross back to NL on Friday. I hope I will actually get to do that.
Safe travels John.

Trans Canada already washed out near Port aux Basques with heavier rain to come.

Stay safe! A good time to hunker down with family if you can.
160km/h winds, 10m seas and heavy rain, in late November. Wouldnt want to be out in that.
Obviously our infrastructure is going to need some major upgrades.
More fearful for our friends in BC; you Newfs are used to this!
I don't think anyone really gets used to it. Sometimes reoccurring events like this bring back previous feelings of anxiousness, and bad memories.
Some people just get better prepared for next time.
Everyone in BC and NFLD stay safe.

We wont go if its not safe .. or if they wont let us. There has been some talk of the ferry going to Argentia instead of PAB which would be great for me as Ill only have a 90 minute drive, but that wont allow me to pick up my daughter in Corner Brook Or finish the bathroom sink I was doing for her on the way to NS.
279mm in Ingonish area of cape Breton, huge number of roads washed out in the area. This is the Cabot Trail. Luckily there is little population in the area, but if you lived there you wouldnt consider yourself lucky.
In western Nfld, the trans Canada highway is washed out in 4 places. It is the only road from the west to the east and there is no railway option. Nfld was settled from the ocean so all the coastal population is feeding out off the TCH. Hopefully they reopen the ferry to Argentia while they get the TCH fixed.
Its kinda crazy that all this infrastructure in Nfld, NS, and BC that has been there for generations is gone in huge numbers, it is no longer good enough to withstand these weird storms. Living on the Atlantic Ocean, I expected the danger from weather to come from the ocean water, all this damage was from fresh water, not salt water. Say this huge amount of water happened in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, etc. ?
The population affected by the BC rail, road, and flood damage is huge, just a taste of the possibilities out there. These storms look a lot like the slow moving hurricanes that hit the southern us, Houston, New Orleans, etc. and New Jersey? Its the water damage as much or more than the wind.

Most of you wouldnt know, but in an area between Port aux Basques and Corner Brook called Wreckhouse, when trains ran in Nfld, they would blow off the tracks. Pre good weather stations, the railway had a man living by the tracks, he would advise if the wind was too much to send a train through. Tractor trailers still blow off the highway in the area.
Im full of useless information.
