An excellent Kijiji experience!

I have to post this because it's so rare to have a wonderful Kijiji experience, at least so it seems when you read about all the Kijiji experiences on the forums.

Yesterday early evening I see something listed on Kijiji that I want to buy. It's in Winnipeg and over an hour away from me. The guy lives closer to the far side of the city from me so I would either have to drive through a bunch of city traffic or go around on the bypass and then come back into the city. I checked Google and it's 96 km. By this time it's 8:45  and I have done enough corresponding with the seller that I know I want to make a deal with him.

I check with him if it's okay if I just come to do the pickup this morning rather than last night because that would mean I'd probably would be home only around 11:00 and there was a forecast for freezing rain. I explained to him that I was in Morris. He says sure that's fine but I could meet you somewhere in the morning. Boy how often do you hear that from someone off kijiji?

I suggest a Tim Hortons only about 5 or 10 minutes from his place and he comes back and suggests meeting me right on the outskirts of the city on the south side which leaves me with only a 35 minute drive this morning!

This morning he meets me there right on time. His drive has taken just as much time as mine to get to this point. After we made the deal and I paid him I tried to give him an extra $10 for what he had done and he flat out refused! I insisted and he still refused. This was a young couple likely around 30. I was so impressed. They did this all for a $60 sale.

Nice to hear Carl! Most all my Kijiji transactions have been as positive.

Im sure most on here always try to be considerate and conscientious as weve all been on both sides of the fence, but thats not always the case with others these days. Great to hear you found one of the good ones, I know it always makes me feel so much better about the world when things go right.

Cant say all of mine have been perfect but today was good. Wanted to buy the Milwaukee impact like Carls so I looked on line to find out amazon sellers were sold out. Home Depot shows some stock it stores. All 3 stores I went to had none. Guy selling new in sealed box for a savings of $80. Guy is on the other side of Toronto. Traffic was hell there and back. I laughed and told the guy I should have just bought at store to save the trip. He reaches in his pocket and hands me $20 for gas. Company truck so that is paid for already. He also was maybe 30 at most. Hamilton to the other side of Toronto and back 3 hours

They are out there. This site is 100%...but there are still a few out and about. I have always found that there are 2 kinds of car guys when it comes to selling parts. Flippers and true gear heads. Not saying you can't make a buck selling parts, but to me the guy that goes the extra mile to make a sale and help another car guy out is the true car guy/gear head. Others just want their profit and don't give a s... Then there are buyers that can be a holes. Had a set of heads for sale for cheap (60.00) .Guy says if you bring them to me and I like I will buy. He lived an hour away and about 20.00 in fuel. I said I don't have the time to drive to everyones house to show parts for sale. Told me if I want the sale I'll have to come buy, said I would store them for anther 20 years....... Some people!

Good stuff. I've never had a really bad buying experience.

I have to admit I've bought a number of things on kijiji and those experiences have been good partly because I try to be a good buyer.

IE: Call promptly, be polite, get info, make a commitment (yes or no) and then show up when you said you would with the agreed payment

I've always been treated with respect when I do that, but it seems that when you try to sell, not many people will follow those principles, which might explain why I have been treated well when I do.

Simple gratitude for behaving decently.

I purchased a car from Kijiji Winnipeg and had it shipped to Ontario. The seller was excellent willing to help meeting the shipper and being very open about the car. Needless to say it was nerve racking sending the money and never seeing the car in person or meeting the owner. The car was here in three days and I am very happy with it.

I sold my 14 snow tires & rims a week ago but before that, calls were producing "bottom of barrel" offers, then 1 fellow wanted me to bring them to Mississauga [ 2 hours away,& not happening] another wanted them right away but I was going to Barrie that day & said I'd call him on way home, then he didn't want them?? Pretty well gave up, but next day fellow calss from Brockville, says he'll pick them up next day, sure enough shows up, looks at them peels off the cash I was asking, "done Deal You just never know!! Now just have to sell the All Seasons's

Not the heck of lot of good experiences posted. Very seldom do I have a good experience selling on kijiji.... kijijidiots far and wide..

NOW, if you want a thread that will never end with responses, start one with.. "A terrible kijiji experience''. That thread will instantly shut down the server... hahaha

My experience, with kijiji, and Craigslist, is that the seller suffers more than the buyer. Carve out part of your day to meet someone and show them an item, or drive somewhere to meet and deliver it, and they don't call, or show up. I've had better luck with Facebook Marketplace - there, the counterparty's identity is known (at least, if they accurately portray themselves).

The biggest ticket item I've sold on kijiji was a low-hours JD Gator that our uncle left behind when he passed. Nice young family from Lucknow drove to just north of Goderich, then Mom put a whip-flag on the thing, donned a motorcycle helmet, and took off for home. They were thrilled, and so were we!

Yes, it does sometimes seem like the fact that they can stay anonymous on Kijiji creates issues. I've had some brave guys hide behind their computer and be awful nasty with me. One guy was mad at how/where I'd posted my ad and kept messaging me saying he was going to report every one of my ads for as long as it took.  It was an idle threat which I proved by continuing doing exactly what I had been doing. Or at least I assume it was idle because nothing ever came of it, my ads weren't removed.

I buy and sell a lot on kijiji. Very few bad transactions. But...once I sense the buyer or seller is not someone I want to deal with I end the transaction. The sellers that reprimand perspective buyers in their ads never get my money.

Agree, why would anyone disrespect a potential buyer.

Recently tho I responded to a Kijiji ad by someone looking for Porsche parts stating quick response.

I had several good items but no response after 24 hours and when I inquired about their quick response

all I got was ........I don't want your junk.....what a jerk....no

I'm the one who started this topic and I spoke too soon!

I was looking at some wheels (not on Kijiji, different place online). Messaged the selling asking what the bolt pattern is. Got an email notification that the seller had replied to my query, which I read. Also got a notification that the "item you are interested in has been changed, price and description". Great I thought, the seller added the bolt pattern to the listing. Nope, seller jacked up the price of the wheels 10 bucks as soon as I showed interest.

I've done enough dealings on kijiji that I find it pretty easy to weed out the people wasting your time.

I'm glad you had a great experience - technology definately has it's ups and downs, but overall kijiji beats having to go purchase a buy and sell every week!

I have just sent the seller the 4th message asking if the price is for sale at the original advertised price or the new ($10 higher) price. Seller has replied to all my questions including information about the wheels for sale and given me the address to come and make the purchase. If I don't get a response regarding the weird price increase I guess it might be time to move on.

And another great Kijiji experience just now. I put a parts book on Kijiji a few hours ago. A guy who lives over an hour away replied to my ad within an hour or so of it being put up and drove here to pick it up already. Shows up early and pays asking price (which was quite fair anyway, but still, negotiating is the Manitoba way......)

The good guys are still out there, don't give up!
