Wow, I think most of us remember when the top 10 list was full of GM's that were so easy to steal.

From the article:

NEW THEFT TECHNIQUE

Last week, York police issued a statement detailing a new way in which thieves are using Apple technology to track and eventually steal high-end cars in the area.

In a news release issued Thursday, investigators said they have identified at least five incidents since September where suspects have placed Apple AirTags in out-of-sight areas of the vehicles when they are parked in public spaces like malls and parking lots.

Thieves then use the AirTags, a small circular device that can be tracked via the Find My app, to locate the vehicle at the victims residence.

After the vehicle is located, police said that thieves will use tools like screwdrivers to gain entry through the passenger or driver side door. Once inside, an electronic device that police say is typically used by mechanics to reset a vehicle to factory settings, is connected to the onboard diagnostics port below the dashboard of the car.

From there, the vehicle is programed to accept a key the suspects have brought with them that can then be used to start the car and drive away.

Clutch pedal anti theft is the way to go. Did anyone catch the Saturday night live sketch s few weeks ago where the thief cant steel the vintage Lamborghini because it's a stick. It hilarious!

Remember the "immobilizer"?

I'm seriously thinking something of the like needs to make a full comeback. Something simple, that is so simple and puzzling these high tech guys can't understand or won't have the time for it.

Remember when the Dodge minivans were gone in second with a simple screwdriver.

Tried watching that SNL Lamborghini spot but cannot find it anywhere

Mark... simple "hidden switch" is the way to go for our cars.  You are just trying to "buy some time", if they can't get it started in a minute or two they'll give up.

BUT, then there is the stealing it with a tow truck deal. So park it inside, boxed in with a hidden switch.....

Exactly. I've done that to many of my vehicles over the years. On the newer cars it's even easier because you can choose whether you kill the fuel pump or the ignition. In the old days we really only could choose an ignition kill. Or at least on my cars that I did it on which were manual transmission cars in many of the cases. No sense defeating just the crank circuit on a car with a manual trans, that won't stop a thief for long!

I use a Faraday Box but the Air Tag method is too slick to combat.

To me, most modern jackers can't think outside the box..so any mod will deter them. Interrupt switch will deter most. Looking takes time..but I just drive junk that nobody want's to be seen in. Funny my wife always sits looow in the seat?? confuse
