No surprise, here. That plant has been on the endangered list for quite a while. They'll bring the next generation in with those badges, and build them in either the U.S. or Mexico. The current platform has been on life support for years (goes back to 2004), and there's no thought of putting a successor in there.

GM is putting some EV stuff into the empty Oshawa plant, but as far as employment numbers go, it will be trivial, both direct and indirect, in comparison with the manpower required to produce the sorts of ICE-powered vehicles we all love.

The death warrant was issued three or four years ago, when Sergio flipped both levels of government the "You're Number One" sign after they put forward an incentive package to get new products assigned to Brampton. Canada's bucking some secular trends - the population shift to the "Sunbelt States" being a significant factor, but some of the cost drivers are within the purvey of various levels of government - energy, the logistics friction that the border imposes, and taxes, and the CAW's approach to working with employers is another obstacle.

Sad. Twenty years ago, Ontario produced more motor vehicles than Michigan.

It was neat to be in the US and see all the police cars that were made in Ontario.

Won't really matter. I read somewhere the HEMI is being replaced with a 6 banger so if that's the case not many people will want one.

I read where the Hellcat motor is done at the end of next year, but I think the naturally aspirated one will continue for a while.  They just launched the new Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer with it, I imagine they will want to amortize those development costs for a while before they start switching out powertrains.

I'll hang on to Ma's Trackhawk.  My heirs and successors will get their moment of fame at Barrett-Jackson at some time in the (hopefully) distant future.

I see the same thing being done with Buick.

EV Buick cars using Buick's old "Electa" nameplate.

Brampton plant was scheduled to get EV's but Chrysler head office in Detroit, decided to build them in USA due to " Buy American" rebate plan !! Last I heard on news is that plant will close in 2024 as no product scheduled to replace what their building now??? Another one bites the dust!! Ford in Oakville, will likely be next to move south.

My daily driver is one of those 6 bangers. At 300 hp, the only fault that I see with that little 3.6 is that my rear rubber will last a bit longer and a fuel tank will take me substantially farther. Still throws me back in the seat when I get into it a bit.

Wait a minute, whats so bad about that?

Build back better is dead, at least for the time being. $12500 rebate for USA union made EV's was in that bill.

It's in Canada's best interest that this bill gets squashed, but not in the average American's best interest.

Joe Manchin (D Virginia) is holding it up.

Looks like they are starting with Airflow:

https://insideevs.com/news/556534/chrysler-airflow-concept-ces2022-debut/

"Its official, Chryslers Airflow electric crossover concept will make its public debut at CES 2022 in Las Vegas on January 5, 2022, when the brand will also outline its future electrification strategy.

CES 2022 will feature the first public display of the Chrysler Airflow Concept, which was previewed in Stellantis EV Day and Software Day presentations earlier this year. The press conference will start at 10 am PT and will be broadcast online

This is great news for the Chrysler brand, which has been neglected in recent years. Currently, it only has two models on sale in North America, the aging 300 sedan and the Pacifica minivan. Chrysler isnt willing to reveal many details about the Airflow yet, though it says the EV will lead its transformation to clean mobility and seamlessly connected customer experiences. Still cannot believe its being introduced at a consumer electronics event. Not an Auto show. Highlights the changing marketplace.
