I wonder if some of these will be donated to schools for auto shop classes.

In the early 90's our dealership suffered an extreme rainfall, some of the new cars suffered flood damage. They were picked up by a GM appointed car hauler and apparently donated to auto shop classes.

Seems a bit wasteful to destroy the whole car. Wouldn't the tires etc be fine?

Its strictly a business decision, cost prohibitive to start stripping off good parts, how many hours and staff needed for that....tons and tons.

Put them in a pick-n-pull.  I expect a lot of good parts would get saved from the crusher.  But then, GM wouldnt be able to sell someone a new part. Better to just crush them.

The waste I saw by General Motors during 40 years working at two dealerships was amazing. Many times I just shook my head, speechless.

Off topic slightly, insane, but it is said in Canada, 58% of all food produced goes to waste.
