So the valuable classics do get out. We need to do this more.
Value is a relative term. People think nothing of driving a $70,000 suv or pickup in the winter. Its more the historic value and personal value rather than monetary value.
Very true Paul. We'll think nothing of running down a 70K car and just buy another when she's done. Our older classics are more than a car, they can be in some ways our identity, future investments or fine art. But they will never be a regular disposable car.
Looks my my driving the 65 is at a standstill now. The roads are a wet and dirty mess now, and will probably be for some time. Oh well, at least I drove until the end of December.

I'll drive a $30K new car through the salt and slush of the winter while I store a $10K car in a garage and won't drive it till the salt is gone. Why? I still need to get around in the winter, so I buy the new car as a tool to accomplish that task. The hypothetical old car was bought as a toy, purely based on emotion, and I want to halt its deterioration.
If it was all about money I would just take the bus... lol.
We have an original paint, rust free 97 Silverado in the garage. When it's messy out we take the 2009 G8 because it's easier to replace than the 97 pickup!

I don't know or care who gets them next, but I was out on another run today. Reading all the chat here actually made me get off my butt and take it out. I can say I saw no other classic cars.
-7 and she runs really nice, lots of cold dense air. The transmission has no complaints, the interior is warm and toasty. So fun!
The only downside is the constant condensation in the pipes, they'll never last I'm sure, but the dual steamers sure look great. Let em rust.

Thats my thinking. Want to keep my car around for a while. I'll be here for another 30 years so hopefully I'm still driving something older then me.
A friend of mine had a 1947 Ford two door sedan. Hes retired and the only car he owned was the 47 Ford at the time. He had it oil sprayed and drove it that winter. Only on good days and only for groceries etc. One day he told me that he almost got into a fist fight in a parking lot because this guy said he shouldnt be driving that car in the winter. He said its my car and Ill f*****g drive it in the winter if I want to.

Seriously, these old cars are great in the snow. Put on some proper snow tires and have at it. Manual transmission makes it all the more controllable, and lack of traction control allows you to hang out the butt while the long wheelbase slows down the rotation a little (angular momentum and all that).
It's your car, do what you want with it. I wouldn't be wimpy and keep it out of the slop if you don't really care what happens to it. Enjoy it today - life's short, have fun.
If it were mine, I'd Krown it first, but really, who cares? They are just cars - get another one once you're done with this. Enjoy!

Blinding white-out snow storm on todays commute. made it round trip in one piece tho. About -18, and been super cold for the last month so the car is "super clean" compared to the usual.
