Princess Auto Wire

Did someone here a while back warn against buying Princess Auto electrical wire? It may have been Beaumontguru, but I'm not certain. At any rate, can someone refresh my memory if that is the case, and if so, what was the issue with their wire?

It's coming up on sale and it seems I use lots of red and black, the exact colours they have on sale.

I usually buy Quick Cable stuff from Piston Ring but if it's all coming on the same boat, might as well buy the Princess stuff I guess.

i know there has been a problem with the coating on the wires when they tried to use some thing else rather then plastic. Mice ans squirls eat the coating

The wire that Ford used. Soy based plastic I think. They had a good 500 dollar chew in my explorer.

Anyway. I think the pa wire will be fine Carl.

Go on line and see the price of premium auto wire.

Checked the PA flyer. It says PVC (polyvinyl chloride) plastic ... no soy.

If you are buying anything at Princess Auto and it is in the flyer you don't have to wait until the flyer sale date to purchase. If it is on the shelf and you have your flyer and show them they will honor the sale price.

I've also noticed sometimes you can order it at sale price a day or so before the actual sale start date listed on the flyer.

When I was working I had to add flashing lights to a recycling truck. This truck had a hoist to raise the box to dump the load. A bit of quick measuring and I needed more than seventy feet of wire to do the job. A well known manufacturer of lighting and wiring products listed a 100 spool of two wire cable for a reasonable cost. Because this truck was new I wanted to wire the circuit without a splice. Unfortunately when I started to run the wire I discovered that the spool of wire was two fifty foot lengths on one spool! So much for me wiring without having a splice.

That would be an interesting discovery. They weren't exactly telling the truth, but ...

That's hilarious. I was in CTC looking for a DeWalt drill on sale and saw a lady pickup the last one and put it behind some paint cans.

Suspect she was coming back later. After she left I picked it up and left...would love to have seen her reaction......smile

So I think I'll buy some of the wire that's on sale. The one good test I'll try is outside overnight later this week when we hit -30 again. I'm curious to see if it will bend without cracking in that temperature.j

-30...  I think you're being a little optimistic on that one.

The last extension cord I owned that didn't freeze was 20 years ago... it was stolen.

Silicone jacketed wire is available on Amazon at three or four times the price (flexible but not great at abrasion resistance).

I suspect you're right but I'm gonna take a piece and try it! I picked up a couple of rolls this morning.

Actual temp -29 tonight they say, -37 tomorrow night. I have a piece sitting outside, I'll try bending it in the morning.
